The Niger State Commissioner of Police CP. Abdullahi Adamu Elleman, has ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into an alleged assault and misconduct involving a senior Police Officer, ASP Yakubu Yusuf.

This followed a petition forwarded to the Commissioner of Police by a Police Constable PC Sabiu Saidu serving with A Divisional Command in Kontagora Niger state

PC Saidu,with Police Force Number 554375, alleged in the petition dated September 9th,2026 which was forwarded to the Commissioner of Police at the Niger State Police Command headquarters in Dutsen- Kura area in Minna.

The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Niger State Command Wasiu Abiodun SP who told the Cabal his office Friday,disclosed that the Commissioner of Police CP Abdullahi Adamu Elleman has ordered for discreet investigation into the matter,” but I cannot comment on the matter for now”

He however, declined further comment on the matter,stating that the matter is under investigation “ like I said I cannot Make any comment on the matter,is true a petition was addressed to the CP. I don’t want to speak on the matter for now” he confirmed.

The petition was titled, “Petition Against AP/NO: 186206 ASP Yakubu Yusuf for Assaulting Me While in Police Uniform and on Official Duty.”

According to Saidu, the incident allegedly occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. on September 8, 2026, while he was carrying out his official responsibilities at the Station Guard of A Division, Kontagora.

He explained that he was seated inside the security room at his duty post when ASP Yusuf’s daughter arrived and complained to his In-Charge that he was sitting in the room instead of performing police duties.

The woman allegedly went further by demanding that Saidu should be detained.

Saidu claimed that he told her he would take action against her if she repeated such a statement. She subsequently left the area.

Shortly afterwards, according to the petition, Cpl Anas Garba approached Saidu and informed him that ASP Yusuf had ordered him to report to his office.

Saidu said he complied immediately and went to the senior officer’s office, where Yusuf allegedly confronted him over the remarks he had made to his daughter.

“Upon my arrival, ASP Yakubu Yusuf began shouting at me and asked me what I had told his daughter,” Saidu stated in the petition.

The constable alleged that before he could fully explain what had happened or present his own account, ASP Yusuf slapped him twice.

“At the time of the incident, I was in police uniform and on official duty. After the assault, I left his office,” he added.

Saidu listed three police officers whom he said witnessed the alleged incident. They are F/No. 518973, Cpl Samari Enock; F/No. 530558, Cpl Anas Garba; and F/No. 559091, PC Ashar Auta.

He described the matter as serious and deserving of a thorough investigation, particularly because the alleged assault involved a subordinate officer who was in uniform and carrying out official duties.

Saidu appealed to the Niger State Commissioner of Police to order a full, impartial and independent investigation into the allegation. He also requested that the command determine whether ASP Yusuf’s alleged conduct violated the rules, regulations, disciplinary procedures and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

As part of his requests, Saidu asked investigators to invite the three named witnesses to provide statements. He also urged the command to obtain separate statements from him and ASP Yusuf.

The constable further requested that investigators consider the relevant Police Rules and Regulations concerning officers’ conduct and the proper treatment of subordinate personnel.

He asked the command to impose the appropriate disciplinary measures if the allegation is confirmed following the investigation.

Saidu also sought protection from any possible intimidation, harassment, victimisation or further physical assault. He requested that the outcome of the investigation be communicated to him through the proper channel.

The officer said he submitted the petition “respectfully and in good faith,” explaining that his objective was to obtain justice and ensure that the matter was handled in line with the established rules and procedures of the Nigeria Police Force.

He added that he was prepared to provide the command with any further statement or information it might require.

A traditional ruler of Jatai in Bosso Local Government Area in Niger State Muhammadu Shehu Mai Angwa has been sued to a Minna High Court number Eight, for trespass.

The Traditional ruler who is the Ward head of Jatai Community was said to have trespassed into a piece of land bought by one Alhaji Babangida Sani Mundi in August 8th, 2012 from the wife of the Chairman of Munya Local Government Mr Denis Barde Mrs. Juliana Barde.

According to a writ of summons filed at the court by a Minna based legal practitioner,Celestine Audu,Esq and obtained by our Judiciary Correspondent,the land in dispute was originally owned by one Ibrahim Mohammed Sambo who sold same land to Mr. Musa Bako on the 23rd February 2001.

“ And Musa Bako sold the land in dispute to the late Chairman Mr. Denis Barde on the 8th of February,2005. While the plaintiff Babangida Sani Mundi bought the disputed land from the wife of the late council chairman,Mrs. Juliana Denis Barde on the 8th August 2012”.

He further stated that after the plaintiff took ownership of the land in dispute,he handed the land to one of his witnesses to sell for a farming purpose on the same land.

The Attorney to the plaintiff told the Court that after ten years of possession of the land by the plaintiff, the defendant,the traditional ruler trespassed in the land claiming ownership of the same land.

He told the court that the plaintiff was given the entire original documents to the said disputed land after the payment for the deed of assignment was executed between the plaintiff and and the Widow of the late Chairman Mrs. Juliana Denis Barded evidencing sale of the said land.

“ The defendant knows fully well that the land has been sold to the plaintiff, since the year. 2012 is hell bent on claiming the land from the plaintiff and unless this court intervenes the act of the defendant might lead to breakdown of law and order” he told the court.

He then prayed the court to declare the disputed land to the plaintiff as the rightful owner of the land having bought the said land from the legitimate and rightful owner of the land.

He further prayed the court for an order of injunction restraining the defendant from trespassing on the land adding that an order awarding special, aggravated,punitive,exemplary damages against the defendant for trespass on the disputed land the sum of N2,000,000 as cost of litigation.

However, the counsel to the defendant Mohammed Isah Esq, told the court that he had filed a counter affidavit and served the counsel to the plaintiff.

While admitting the receipt of the counter affidavit, the Attorney to the Plaintiff Celestine Audu,Esq, told the court that he had just served the counter affidavit “ and I need time to respond to the affidavit”.

While adjourning the case, Justice Binta Bawa Rijau adjourned the case to the 21st of September 2026 for the plaintiff to file his response to the affidavit .

Barely three weeks after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared governor Adeleke of Accord party winner of Osun election, the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) have challenged the outcome of the August 15, 2026, Osun Gubernatorial elections incumbent governor’s victory as Tribunal displays two Petitions

The petitions were confirmed in a notice sighted by our correspondent at the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, formally commencing the legal process arising from the August 15 governorship election.

The development followed confirmation by the secretary of the tribunal, Pefe Belemore, that petitions challenging the election outcome had been filed.

According to Belemore, “The necessary notices would be displayed on the tribunal’s notice board before noon on Monday.”

At the opening of the tribunal earlier in the day, Belemore was present in the courtroom alongside other officials of the secretariat as preparations were made for the commencement of proceedings.

The APC and PDP are challenging the outcome of the election, which returned Adeleke as governor for another term in office.

The display of the petitions is expected to pave the way for the service of legal processes on the parties involved and subsequent proceedings before the tribunal.

The APC’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Oyebamiji listed Adeleke, the Accord and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as respondents in the petition challenging the election outcome.

The PDP’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord.
