At last, IBB declares  Abiola winner of  June 12 election  ……. should also admit Prof.Nwosu conducted transparent election-Chief Chekwas Okorie

General IBB, former military President

Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida [IBB] has made a significant disclosure that verged on the validation of the outcome of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.

He took three opportunity of the public presentation of his autobiography to confirm that the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, who had, up until now, been referred to as the presumed winner of the election, actually was the winner of the poll.

Chief MKO Abiola casting his vote at Presidential election that gave him victory

This disclosure, which is documented in his autobiography-“A Journey in Service,” which was officially launched in Abuja on Thursday, has settled the contentious question in his life and times.

It is instructive that IBB has chosen not to go to his grave with this significant validation/ confirmation.

The book reviewer, former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, captured Babangida’s affirmation that Abiola, who contested on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), secured both the majority of votes and the required geographical spread to be declared president.

Babangida was quoted to have described the annulment of the election as the most difficult decision of his career.

He stated, “There was no doubt in my mind; MKO Abiola won the election. He satisfied all the requirements.”

However, Babangida expressed satisfaction that President Muhammadu Buhari posthumously recognized Abiola’s victory by awarding him the prestigious Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) title, which is reserved for Presidents.

Reacting to IBB’s confession in a phone interview with Daily Echoes Media, Pioneer chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA)Chief Chekwas Okorie  congratulated General IBB for confirming Chief MKO Abiola as winner of June 12 presidential election

“Let me say that it is a vindication of Professor Humphrey Nwosu, former INEC chairman, who is yet to be thanked for conducting a transparent election and announced the right result but had to go through all sorts of humiliation.
“It is also a vindication that the late MKO Abiola truly won the election and the peoples mandate for him was denied.
“The third one is that all those who protested and demonstrated and some of who died in the process of defending Chief Abiola’s mandate died for a good course because they died defending the truth..
“Now having said that, I will proceed to say that IBB should thank his God that he lived long enough to have the courage to own up to what he did that was obviously wrong,” he said.
Chief Okorie further said,”He accepted responsibility being the commander- in-Chief of the Armed Forces at the time and he said he regretted it based on his words.
“He further said that if what happened were to happen again his actions would have been different.
“All these are statements of fact and I happy that he was able to do it while he is still alive. It is left for God who has the ultimate power to forgive to forgive him and that also is a lesson to everybody that the only thing  that can never perish is the truth. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, even if you try to bury the truth sometime either in your life time or later the truth will still speak out and that is what happened today.
“So, very historic thing happened. In the book itself which I will try and lay hands on. He was detailed enough to stress on those that could be held responsible for the decision he took but those are the details which can be found in the book but this is what I could lay hands on.”

Senator Yar’Adua dumps APC …says party derails from original ideals, selfish, corrupt

Senator Abubakar Sadiq Yar’adua

Senator Abubakar Sadiq Yar’adua has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress ( APC ), citing the party’s departure from its founding ideals and describing the current administration as “selfish and stinkingly corrupt.”

In a strongly worded resignation letter addressed to his colleagues and the Nigerian public, Yar’adua, a founding member of both the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the APC, accused the ruling party of betraying the masses and abandoning its original mission of service to the people.

“I can not remain in a party or support a government that unashamedly watches its citizens being maimed, intimidated, sexually-harassed, assaulted, killed and displaced… while the government, its leadership and organs… remain aloof and unconcerned,” Yar’adua stated.

He further criticized the economic policies of the APC-led government, labeling them “destructive” and targeted at the “welfare, dignity, lands and livelihood” of Nigerians . He likened those in power to “urban bandits” and declared his intention to work with other like-minded individuals to democratically oust the current administration.

His exit marks a significant development in Katsina State politics and could trigger more defections, especially among disillusioned party loyalists.

Yar’adua concluded his statement with a call to action: “I, therefore, have no option other than to join hands with like-minds to democratically remove this bad, selfish and stinkingly corrupt administration.”
