Jubilation, As CKC Kurudu Women roll out  drums to celebrate Mothers Day  …..Raises funds to purchase Bus

CKC Kurudu CWO officials cutting cake on Mothers Day celebration
It was celebration galore on Sunday as Catholic Women Organization (CWO) in Christ the King Catholic Church Kurudu joined other parishes in the Abuja archdiocese to celebrate this year’s Mothers Day celebration.

Parish Priest CKC Kurudu, Very Rev.Fr Thaddeus Chike Dim

The occasion which started with Holy Mass celebrated by the Parish Priest, Very Rev Fr Thaddeus Chike Dim witnessed the active participation of women in such sensitive parts like the Alter Servants, Church Wardens, Choir etc.
At the outdoor event proper CMO entertained the their guest with variety of cultural dances, Match-Pass competition and Queenship context in which zone D (St Rita) group won in both contexts
The organization also carried out fund raising activity aimed  at raising funds for the purchase of a bus for group’s travels in and outside the archdiocese.
Speaking in an interview with the  Publisher of Daily Echoes Media, Mr Ignatius Okorocha, The Parish Priest, Very Rev Fr Thaddeus Chike Dim described this year’s Mothers Day celebration as fantastic and special.

Winners of 2025 matchpass competition won by Zone D in jubilation.

According to Fr Dim,” this year’s Mothers Day celebration is very unique because it is a day we celebrate our Mothers, give them respect and honour that are their due.”
He said,”Thank God for all Mothers, God works wonders through our Mothers, starting from the procreation and nurturing of their children .
“They take care of  the family. Not only that, even in the church, women are the pillars in the church. During the time of Jesus, the people who supported Jesus mostly behind the scene, were the women who were there then.
“So, each time we celebrate the Mothers Day, is something of honour.
First, we thank God who has created them and given them such special honour both in the family, the church and in the world at large.”
Continuing the Parish Priest said,”This year’s Mother’s Day with the chosen title “The Hope” which is something beautiful. Pope Francis has declared this year, a year of Hope and if that hope would really bear spiritual fruit, and in our world today, hope is really the future of tomorrow. So, it begins with the Mothers, that is what makes this year’s celebration a unique one.
“It is a celebration of hope and mothers are really the hope in the sense that if they put themselves together, starting from their homes, their children and their husbands every where will be okay. So, that’s what makes this year’s Mother’s Day celebration different from the previous ones,” he noted.
On the large number of women that have not registered with the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) in this Parish,  the clergyman said,” that is one of the human nature, maybe some are scared that they may not be able to meet up with the dues or levies being paid by members of the CWO.
“Some might say that they don’t have time to attend CWO’s activities but this is creating time to do the work of God. When you come and join your fellow Women, there are a lot of things they discuss there and there are a lot of ways they help and support one another.
“There are times they pray for one another, if any of them is going through some difficulties, they support them. If any of them loses a dear one, a child or husband, they are always there to assist.
So, those who have not registered are really making a big mistake because they lose the grace they could get and the support they might get from their fellow Women. No man is an island. You can not run the race alone, you can even miss the road but when you run the race with your group, your fellow mothers, you can be assured that you will win the race and you will not miss the road.
“So, my advice to such women is that, they should come out and join the CWO and  reap the full benefits  that go to members and their families.
Earlier, the CWO President in the Parish, Mrs   Ijeoma Okwububa said , “This year’s Mother’s Day celebration is very unique in the sense that so many things have happened to us in this Parish and for God to have kept us alive up to this day to celebrate ourselves as women, as Mothers is something to give him glory.
“It is a very beautiful thing that we are here to celebrate ourselves.”
She further noted,”The second thing is that as a Parish, we have been trying to raise funds to purchase a Bus for the CWO of this Parish.
“So, this year’s Mothers Day celebration is a special edition because it is dedicated specially to raise funds for our bus purchasing project.”
On whether CWO will be able to raise the money for the purchase of the bus given the present economic situation in the country, she said, “Yes, I am indeed very optimistic, we are going to make it .Aside the people that are here, and that have  supported us tremendously, we still have so many of them that could not make it today because all the parishes in this archdiocese are celebrating today.
” So, most of the people that are supposed to be here are not here because they are engaged in their  various parishes celebrating the same event. But we will reach out to them after today because they said we should do so and that they would support us. As  I am talking to you, some of these our invited guests have already supported us before now.
“So, I am optimistic that by the grace of God, we are going to make it and have our Bus this year.”
Meanwhile, “we are targeting N20million for the purchase of the Bus but I am also optimistic that we are going to surpass that target and if we achieve that, we shall go for a higher grade of Bus than our initial proposal.”
On the limited number of membership of  this parish CWO she said,” I will not tell you that I am worried because I tell you something, the number of women that have joined CWO in our parish since the inception of this teneur can not be over emphasized. So, many women in this Parish have been trouping to the CWO to join us because they have seen and they have felt what we are doing as women in this Parish and more people are coming to join us.
“We are also making effort to reach those that are not here yet because one of the problems we have in this Parish is that some young women feel that the CWO is for the old but when they see other young women like them in this organization they change their perception and come to join us.”
On the other hand some of them because of the misconception that they had, they feel that CWO is all about contributing money for one thing or another but when they come close and make inquiries, and discover  that it is not all about money, they will turn back and join the organization because there so many other things that we do for our sisters in need because we know that all fingers are not equal.
Also the winner of this year’s trophy in match pass which is the first of its kind in CKC parish led by the Assistant leader who doubles as the commandant of the  St  Rita ‘s zone (Zone D)parade group, Mrs Francisca Nkiruka Okorocha said, “We are grateful to God for this victory and we are also honouring Our Blessed Virgin Mary for her presence at the event which is the secret of our success.”
She further noted that her  team worked very hard and trained tirelessly with the encouragement of their able leader, Mrs Chika Ihejirika to earn the victory.  Mrs Okorocha also noted ,” Actually it was a team work” which  earned us this year’s Parish Queenship in the person of Mrs Rita Ileifa.”

A Niger Delta based Non-Governmentla Organisation and gender advocacy group, the Do Foundation has outlined reasons for the moves to recognise and award few individuals in the region for exceptional Leadership and commitment to Gender Equality.

According to the Do Foundation, those nominated for the proposed “Gender Champions Hall of Fame ” are recognised for their fight against social injustice and all forms of inequality or oppression and violence.

The Gender Champions Hall of Fame event is a Project by DO- Dise Ogbise Foundation, and scheduled for the 9th, 10th and 11th of October, 2026 while the fund-raising gala night is fixed for the 30th of august 2026 @ Domaris hotel, Sanni Abacha Expressway, Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

Speaking at the special media briefing, the President and Founder of the Do Foundation, Dr. Dise Ogbise Goddy Harry noted that the selection committee has been set up to identify, recognize and celebrate individuals who have distinguished themselves through outstanding contributions to gender equality, women’s empowerment, inclusion, social justice and the advancement of opportunities for boys, girls and women who have been affected by gender-based violence and social prejudice.

According to her, the initiative is founded on the conviction that societies progress when individuals who challenge discrimination, open doors for others and promote equal opportunity are publicly recognized and their contributions preserved for posterity.

She said “The Hall of Fame is therefore conceived not merely as an awards platform, but as a repository of exemplary leadership and service—a place where the stories of outstanding gender champions can inspire present and future generations.”

“The inscription of the honors will be in the form of an engravement or etching of inductees’ images, achievements and bios on a more permanent site or hall. Hence, the hall of fame.MANDATE OF THE SELECTION COMMITTEEThe Selection Committee is charged with ensuring that the process of identifying inductees is credible, transparent, inclusive and based on demonstrable achievement”

Dr. Dise Ogbise however announced that the selection committee have been charged with the responsibility of Identifying and considering deserving nominees from public service, politics, law, business, education, medicine, academia, civil society, media, entertainment, traditional institutions, philanthropy and other sectors.Assess measurable contributions to gender equality, women’s advancement, girl-child development, protection of vulnerable persons, including the boy child and access to education, economic empowerment and leadership opportunities.

She also said the committee is expected to recognise both established and emerging champions, including individuals whose contributions may not have received adequate public recognition.

According to her, they will “Maintain high standards of integrity and independence in the selection process, ensuring that induction is based on merit rather than political affiliation, personal relationships, social status or financial influence.Preserve the stories and achievements.”

She also pointed out that the Committee has devised two major categories for selection, viz: The INSTITUTIONAL CATEGORY; THE INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY.

“Under these two categories, we will give particular consideration to:Sustained commitment to gender equality and inclusion;Demonstrable impact on the lives of women, girls, boys and other vulnerable persons, (orphans etc);Leadership that has broken barriers or created opportunities for others;Advocacy for women’s rights and dignity;Contributions to education, economic empowerment and professional advancement;Legislative, judicial, policy or institutional reforms advancing gender equality;Humanitarian and community service;Mentorship and development of the next generation of women leaders;Courage, integrity and consistency in championing gender equity;”

” And the lasting or transformative nature of the nominee’s contribution. The Committee may also consider the extent to which a nominee has inspired institutional or societal change beyond personal achievement.INDEPENDENCE AND CREDIBILITY .”

“The Selection Committee recognizes that the credibility of any Hall of Fame depends fundamentally upon the integrity of its selection process.Accordingly, members of the Committee are expected to exercise independent judgment, disclose any potential conflict of interest and refrain from participating in the consideration of a nominee where their personal, professional or financial relationship could reasonably affect their impartiality.”

“The Committee will also seek appropriate documentation and credible evidence of achievement before recommending an individual for induction. This approach is consistent with the broader tradition of recognizing individuals whose careers have produced enduring contributions to society. ”

“The Gender Champions Hall of Fame is intended to answer an important question:Who are the men and women who have used their positions, talents, resources and influence to make it easier for others—particularly women and girls—to achieve their full potential?”

“The answer should not be determined merely by titles held or awards received. It should be determined by impact, courage, service, leadership and legacy. The Committee therefore encourages members of the public, institutions, professional bodies, civil society organizations and other stakeholders to identify individuals whose contributions deserve consideration.”

“The Selection Committee welcomes credible nominations and supporting information concerning individuals who have made exceptional contributions to gender equality and human development. The public is encouraged to focus on evidence of achievement and impact, rather than popularity or public visibility. The Committee believes that recognition can be a powerful instrument for social transformation. By celebrating those who have championed equality, the Hall of Fame can encourage others to become champions themselves.”

“The Gender Champions Hall of Fame seeks to build a lasting culture of recognition for people who have helped advance a more equitable society. The Selection Committee is committed to a process that is credible, transparent, merit-driven and worthy of the honour being conferred. The message is simple:Celebrate those who opened doors.”

” Honour those who broke barriers. Preserve their stories. Inspire the next generation.Gender Champions Hall of Fame Selection CommitteeRecognising Leadership. Celebrating Impact. Inspiring Equality.”

Maikaba Vows One-Season Mission As Bayela United Chase Immediate NPFL Return

By David Owei

‎Bayelsa United technical adviser, Abdul Maikaba, says the club has a clear mandate: return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the end of the 2026/27 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

‎Speaking after a preseason victory over De Go-Pro FC of Sapele, Maikaba said the Yenagoa-based Prosperity Boys are fully focused on the task ahead as the NNL gets set to kick off on Saturday, October 31.

‎The season opener will feature Heartland of Owerri taking on Crown FC of Ogbomosho, the league announced during its AGM in Owerri.

‎“I am satisfied with the display and the way they played,” Maikaba told journalists. “But the truth is, we are assessing the players because we are recruiting. We are looking to see who will add value to the team, and any player who will not add value, we will let him go.”

‎The former Kano Pillars boss signed a one-year deal specifically to take Bayelsa United back to the elite division.

‎“We have more than sixty players in camp. We are gradually trimming down to our maximum of 35,” he explained. “With quality games and proper training, we will pick the best. That is why I have a one-season contract — to do the job in one year.”

‎Maikaba stressed that Bayelsa United will not shy away from any opponent in the abridged campaign.
‎“We are in the NNL to face any team. We are not here to handpick opponents. Any team we are drawn with, we are ready to face. The target is to qualify for the Premier League in one season.”

‎The Prosperity Boys find themselves in what many consider the toughest group.

‎Conference B pits Bayelsa United against: Beyond Limit FA(Ogun), Solution FC (Anambra), Akwa United (Akwa Ibom), Smart City FC (Lagos), Right-2-Win FC (Abia), Dokka Khairu FC (Osun), Abakaliki FC (Ebonyi), and Ekiti United (Ekiti).

‎The club says more quality friendly matches will be used to fine-tune the squad and identify weaknesses before the October kickoff.

‎The Bayelsa United Chairman explained that the Under-19 Youth League was attracted to the State by the board as a fulfillment of the mandate of the Governor to infuse greater percentage of homegrown talents into the emerging Bayelsa United set up.

‎The Bayelsa United helmsman also praised the Bayelsa United Feeders team for their outstanding run, having won all three matches so far while keeping clean sheets.

‎Dr. Singabele urged young footballers across the state to take inspiration from the tournament and aspire to greatness.

‎He further appreciated Governor Douye Diri, his Deputy Dr. Peter Akpe as well as the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon.
