Niger state govt.seeks out of court settlement on Badegi Radio station’s suite

This was the outcome of the request made at the resumed hearing of the suite filed by the counsel to the radio station Barrister Philip Emmanuel before the Minna High Court number four.

On Monday,resumed hearing in the suite numberNSHC/M/ 0296/ 2025,filed on Tuesday,the 5th,August,2025, the counsel to the defendants Jacob Johnson Usman SAN announced that there is a moved for out of court settlement in the matter.

Johnson Usman SAN,told the court that he had a discussion with the counsel to the Plaintiffs of the need to resolve the matter out court in the interest of peace and the interest of the generality of the people of Niger State.

He further informed the Court that he had earlier informed counsel to the Plaintiffs Barrister Philip Emmanuel that ” I have had a discussion with my clients, the Governor of Niger State and the Attorney General of Niger State that we need to resolve the matter and he agreed

” And the counsel to the Plaintiffs also agreed that the matter be resolved in the best interest of his clients. A we informed the Court as such .

” We have taken a date for 3rd of September 2025 to report for out of court settlement” Jacobs Johnson Usman SAN told Journalists shortly after the court session.

Justice Mohammed Mohammed,of the Minna High Court number four had on Tuesday the 5th of August 2025 granted an interim injuction in favour of the plaintiffs, Baddegi FM station, Baddegi Broadcasting Service Ltd, and its Managing Director Mohammed Shaibu Baddegi.

Barrister Philip Emmanuel counsel to the plaintiff had approached the court through an ex-parte Motion backed with relevants Provisions and sections of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as Amended) and the relevant Provisions of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) among others.

In his last week rulling, Justice Mohammed Mohammed restrained the respondents which includes the Executive governor of Niger State, the Attorney General of Niger State,and the Urban Development Board from carrying any unpleasant actions that could be detrimental to the Broadcasting license or business premises located at the NTA premises Uphill in Minna.

Anayo Stephen, the 13 yr old boy abducted by kidnappers miraculously escaped

The Police Command in Anambra State on Monday announced that a 13-year old boy who was allegedly abducted by unknown men in Ideato,Local Government Area of Imo State has been found by a Vigilante in the state.

The boy was said to have escaped from his captors in a bush in Ideato Local Government Area of Imo State after they fell asleep.

The victim whose name was given as Anayo Stephen, from Ubaha-Akparu community was said to have been kidnapped by four young men in a Hilux vehicle while on his way to fetch grass for goats.

He was however, lucky as he ran into the vigilante operatives at Ideani in Idemli North local government area of Anambra state after escaping from his captors’ custody.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said that the boy is in safe custody of the Command.

The statement read in part, “Anambra Police Command wishes to inform the public, especially the people of Ideato LGA of Imo state of the safe custody of one Anayo Stephen,13, from Ubaha-Akparu Community.

“The young boy was allegedly abducted in Imo stat but was found at Ideani Junction in Anambra.

“According to the boy, on Aug.9, at about 3p.m., while on his way to fetch grass for goats, four young men in a Hilux vehicle stopped him.

“They initially asked him for directions to a certain place in his area.

However, unknown to him, they allegedly abducted him and took him to an undisclosed location.

“The boy further stated that while his captors were asleep with him in the bush, he managed to escape.

“While walking away from the scene, he met the vigilante operatives at Ideani Junction and narrated his ordeal.

“The victim speaks both Igbo and English fluently.

“The Command seeks the assistance of members of the media to share his picture for possible identification and to reunite him with his family.”

Disturbed by the invasion of Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Sunday,Management of the Library has threatened to take legal action against the Commission.

It would be recalled that the Anti-graft’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, at about 2 a.m on Sunday, raided the facility and arrested 93 youths, seized 18 vehicles and mobile devices during a Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza party held at the OOPL, Rounda fun spot.

A viral video showed how some youths scampered to safety during the EFCC nocturnal raid.

A statement posted by EFCC on its official X account said the raid on OOPL followed credible intelligence about the youths’ suspected involvement in internet crimes.

But in his reaction to the development, Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, said in a statement that EFCC operatives invaded the facility with over 50 armed men, shooting sporadically and threatening to kill people.

Ortese expressed regret that the invasion, led by one ‘Olapade’, caused panic and chaos, leading to serious injuries among participants who were trying to escape the shooting.

Vitalis described the action as a clear case of invasion of private property, infringement of OOPL’s rights as a corporate citizen and a stark and blatant violation of the rights of the people who gathered for the event.

OOPL’s statement read, “This morning, at about 2 am, the OOPL premises were invaded by a Gestapo-like gang of over 50 armed men, shooting guns, threatening to kill people, and purporting to be from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“The invasion, led by one “Olapade” caused serious panic and chaos, leading to serious injuries among participants trying to escape the shooting and near carnage that resulted, and causing terror among residents on the site.

“On inquiry by phone, the “Olapade” informed the Managing Director of the OOPL establishment, Mr. Vitalis Ortese, that they were acting on an intelligence tip about a private event in the amusement facility of the complex. They also informed management that the police have been duly informed of the operation.

“It should be noted that the event was a private event that had been widely advertised to members of the public for days prior. It should also be noted that both the police officers stationed at the OOPL gates and the additional police sent from the Kemta Police Station, as requested by the organisers of the event and management, stated that they were NOT informed of any planned operation by the EFCC, and neither did they present any warrant.

“And when the armed men were accosted by OOPL security and assisting police officers, they simply retorted, “we are doing our job.

“Management wishes to state that this action by the EFCC is a clear case of invasion of private property, infringement of OOPL rights as corporate citizens, and indeed a stark and blatant violation of the rights of the people who so gathered for the event.”

The statement also said an investigation into the invasion was ongoing and demanded an explanation and an apology from the EFCC authorities for the infringement on its rights and that of those who gathered there.

OOPL threatened to take legal action if the anti-graft agency fails to issue the explanation and apology.

The statement added, “In the meantime, management demands an explanation of these impudent actions from the Commission and an apology from the EFCC authorities for the infringement of its rights, to all those who gathered, and those who sustained serious injuries from the gangster like induced chaos.

“Failure for which the management will be compelled to seek redress and sanctions as appropriate,”

Alarmed at a disturbing viral video showing the abduction of three children in Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ebonyi State government has issued a strong warning to parents to prioritise the safety and welfare of their children during the long vacation.

Speaking at an interactive session with education stakeholders across the three senatorial zones of the state, Commissioner for Education, Dr Donatus Ilang has raised an alarm over the growing indifference among some parents towards the whereabouts and wellbeing of their wards, that has given rise to increasing trend of children abduction.

“Children are God’s greatest gifts, and they deserve far more than just food and shelter,” he said. “They require close attention, discipline, and protection, especially in uncertain times like these. Teachers have done their part. It is your turn now to stand up and be responsible.”

Dr Ilang condemned in strong terms the act of kidnapping, describing it as a crime against both God and humanity.

He stressed that the safety of children is not merely the responsibility of teachers or government agencies, but a collective duty shared by every adult in the community.

The Commissioner urged parents and guardians to be more vigilant and to deliberately monitor the movement of their children, their peers, and others in their environment.

According to him, “Security is no longer a government-only affair. It is everybody’s business.”

“Rather than leaving children in the hands of strangers or underage minders, prepare them well and place them in safe hands. Do not allow convenience to become the cause of regret,” he added.

Dr Ilang extended his message beyond the household, calling on landlords, landladies, and housing agencies to improve data collection on tenants and to quickly report suspicious movement within their premises to relevant security authorities.

While issuing a stern warning to criminal elements operating in the state, he stated categorically that Ebonyi children are not commodities for sale, ritual, or exploitation.

“Any person or group that targets the innocence of our children must prepare to meet the full weight of justice,” he warned.

He insisted that perpetrators of such acts will not escape retribution. “You may run, but you will not hide. Nemesis has a way of knocking when you least expect,” he said, his voice firm with resolve.

Dr Ilang also appealed to security agencies to intensify intelligence-based operations aimed at unmasking and arresting those behind the growing trend of child abductions.

He said only a united front between citizens and security personnel can halt the scourge.

He praised the bravery of concerned individuals who helped expose the recent incident and encouraged more residents to speak up when they sense danger, assuring that anonymity and protection would be guaranteed for whistleblowers.

As the state prepares for a long holiday season, the Commissioner’s message rings loud: vigilance must replace complacency, and every home must become a fortress of protection for its youngest members. In his words, “Let no child be left unguarded. Their safety is our shared responsibility
