Ondo Guber Polls:INEC Accredits 112 Media Houses:
…… As NUJ Partners To Strengthen Democracy
Ignatius Okorocha, Abuja The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has accredited one hundred and twelve (112),media organizations while deploying over 700 journalists, technicians and other personnel to facilitate their coverage of the Ondo State Governorship election scheduled to hold on Saturday 16th November 2024.
This accreditation allows over 700 journalists, technicians, and other personnel to report on the election. The media organizations include newspapers, radio, television, and online platforms, ensuring diverse coverage of the event.
INEC Professor Mahmood Yakubu made this disclosure on Friday at the fourth quarterly consultative meeting with the media held at the INEC Headquarters, Abuja.
Yakubu assured that the detailed breakdown of the media organizations and the number of personnel to be deployed will be uploaded to the commission’s website and social media platforms for public information.
He declared that a total of 64,273 PVCs were collected by voters out of 89,777 cards delivered to Ondo state.
This according to Yakubu, represents an impressive collection rate of 71.6%. “I would like to appreciate the media for your support in voter mobilization for the exercise. In the next few days, the Commission will upload to our website the cumulative figure of all PBCs collected in each of the 3,933 polling units across the state for the purpose of result management as provided by law and for public information.
“We learned lessons from previous elections. We have improved on the voter accreditation process and the speed with which we upload results to the INEC Reserve Green Voter. There have been similar improvements in observer and media Accreditation also revealed that INEC voter education efforts are ongoing.
The capacity of election duty staff has improved, with hands-on training for especially the polling unit agents using the beavers. “As we approach the Ondo State Governorship election, there will be further improvements especially in the logistics for the movement of parcel and materials for both land and maritime locations to enable the prompt commencement of polls as well as the management of the processes on election day, from voting to declaration of result.
INEC boss announced that already, mock accreditation of voters has been uploaded to the IREV portal and has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2024 in 12 polling units across 6 local government areas in 3 senatorial districts of the state.
A document containing the locations of the site or locations for the mock has already been uploaded to INEC website and a hard copy were given to media executives at the fourth quarterly consultative meeting.
He appealed to the media to continue to serve as a counterforce against fake news, misinformation and disinformation, adding that there has been no major incident of election-related violence known to the Commission in Ondo State so far.
“However, we are aware of flashpoints in some local government areas to which we have already drawn the attention of the security agencies, he noted.
INEC Chairman announced that the National Peace Committee, under the leadership of our respected former head of state, General Abdul Salam Abubakar, is holding the signing of the Peace Accord for Parties and Candidates in Ondo State on Friday, 8 November 2024.
As the Ondo State Governorship election approaches, he said,”I appeal to the media to intensify your accurate reportage that will ensure peaceful elections, especially now that the campaign by political parties and candidates is in full swing in the state.”
In his remarks, the President of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Chris Isiguzo commended INEC for the opportunity to engage the media in dialogue that not only strengthens democracy, but also promotes transparency and accountability.
According to Isiguzo,”This particular meeting holds particular significance as it comes less than 12 hours before the 10th International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, which of course comes up by tomorrow.

2nd Phase Leaders Complete Training on Leadership and Mediation – Gen. Elaye Lauds Otuaro’s Visionary Drive

The 2nd Phase Camp Leaders’ training on “Leadership, Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation”, sponsored by the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), has successfully come to a close Friday on a commendable note.
The intensive leadership-building initiative, held under the distinguished leadership of the Administrator of the PAP, High Chief Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, aimed to equip leaders with practical skills in peacebuilding, mediation, and conflict resolution—critical tools for sustaining peace in the Niger Delta region.
Reacting to the successful completion of the programme, General Elaye ThankGod Dollar Slaboh, National Chairman of the Third Phase Presidential Amnesty Programme, alongside his national leadership, congratulated the participants for their commitment and active engagement throughout the training.
General Elaye commended Dr. Otuaro for his visionary leadership and strategic direction, which is rapidly changing the dynamics of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, shifting it towards human capital development and long-term peace.
He emphasized that such initiatives are essential for reinforcing grassroots leadership and consolidating the peace already being enjoyed in the region.

Minister of Regional Development, Engineer Abubakar Momoh has been conferred with two Awards by the Institute of Professional Economists and Management Policy (IPEPM) tagged ‘ Excellent Leadership Award and Professional Doctorate Fellowship Award”.
Receiving the Awards today in his office, Engr. Momoh, expressed profound gratitude for the recognition and reiterated that true governance is about leaving a lasting legacies.

Minna Lack of Sensitisation responsible for transporting small arms and light weapons to criminal gangs-Enanch and offi officials

The Zonal Director, North Central, National Centre for Small Arms and Light Weapons Mr Abdul Adamu Enenche made the submission during a visit to the Niger State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ in Minna.
Of recent, many Nigerians have been apprehended with cache of arms and ammunitions meant for delivery to bandits, kidnappers and other criminals.
This has raised questions as to why some individuals will willingly allow themselves to be used as couriers of illegal weapons to criminals.
The Zonal Director, National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, Mr Abdul Adamu Enenche said lack sensitisation on dangers of such acts and intelligence from people are contributing to the spread of arms.
He observed that porous or poorly managed borders and activities of local fabricators who manufacture guns are other sources of weapons proliferation that the Centre is trying to address.
Mr Adamu Enenche who solicited the support of members of the NUJ to enable the Centre to achieve its objectives, promised to synergize with other sister agencies.
The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Niger State Council, Comrade Abu Nmodu expressed optimism that there would be great reduction of criminal activities once the issue of small arms are resolved.
Comrade Nmodu urged the Centre to be open for collaboration with the Union especially in the area of training members on it’s activities.
Across section of members of the Union who spoke on the occasion stressed the need for the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons to deploy officers of the Centre to the grassroots for easy intelligence gathering.
