{"id":10174,"date":"2026-01-13T03:32:01","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T03:32:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=10174"},"modified":"2026-01-13T03:36:01","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T03:36:01","slug":"two-rivers-lawmakers-pull-out-from-plots-to-impeach-governor-fubara","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2026\/01\/13\/two-rivers-lawmakers-pull-out-from-plots-to-impeach-governor-fubara\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Rivers Lawmakers make U-turn:Pull out  from plots to Impeach governor Fubara,deputy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Our Correspondent<br \/>\nAhead of plot by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Sylvanus Nwankwo and Peter Abbey, have pulled out from the impeachment move against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu.<\/p>\n<p>The two lawmakers comprising Nwankwo, the Minority Leader representing Omuma constituency<br \/>\nand Abbey, representing Degema Constituency at the Assembly made the announcement during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday. <\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers disclosed that their decision was influenced by appeals from respected stakeholders within and outside the state, and interventions from elders and leaders who appealed for restraint and reconciliation in the interest of peace and stability in the state<\/p>\n<p>The repentant lawmakers had equally appealed to their colleagues to prioritize peace over the pursuit of impeaching the governor and his deputy from office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRivers State issued a notice of impeachment on Governor Fubara and his deputy. We appeal to our fellow colleagues to temper justice with mercy and see how we can solve this matter without the impeachment proceedings,\u201d Nwankwo stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving listened to numerous pleas from our elders and leaders, both within and outside the state, we are appealing to the conscience of our colleagues to reconsider their stand and explore an amicable resolution,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though the governor and the deputy governor may have infringed on the constitution, we urge our colleagues to prioritize dialogue and reconciliation,\u201d Nwankwo further emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Abbey, representing Degema State Constituency, noted that the call for restraint, was informed by several calls by spirited individuals to consider the peace of the state give the plan  a human-centered approach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe may have infringed on parts of the constitution, but we are human beings, and as members of the 10th Assembly, we plead with our colleagues to reconsider,\u201d Abbey said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the governor also has a responsibility to de-escalate the crisis by ensuring no further constitutional breaches, which could pave the way for a peaceful settlement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe governor has a role to play; he must ensure he does not infringe further on the constitution.
