A twenty -man Community Vigilante has been inaugurated in Aguobiri community by the Executive Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Honourable Target Isaiah Segibo.
\nIn his charge, Honourable Target Isaiah Segibo warned members of the vigilante group not to take the laws into their hands but supplement Government security agencies in combating crime and criminality within the ambit of the law.
\nThe Southern Ijaw Local Government chairman said, the vigilante can do this by taking proactive steps to prevent crime in Aguobiri community,gather intelligence and share such information with the community leadership, the police and other security agencies as well as maintain peace through deliberate proactive community watch in the fight against crime and criminality.
\nHe called on the vigilante group not to torture suspects but hand over anyone caught to the police or other security agencies available at the time of such crime for appropriate investigation and prosecution to serve as deterrent to others.
\nHonourable Segibo said the lifting of the seven months ban on vigilante activities in Aguobiri was not aimed at witch-hunting any individual or members of the committee but to curb excesses and instill discipline to ensure that the rule of law is not abused particularly by members of the community vigilante.
\nHe renewed his administration’s commitment to work in partnership with security organizations to ensure that Southern Ijaw Local Government Area remains a haven of peace for the people and companies operating in the Local Government.
\nAlso speaking,Area Commander in charge of the Nigeria police in Southern Ijaw,ACP Isaac Seibokuro and the Oporoma Divisional Police Officer-Godwin Agbalaiko assured the vigilante members of collaboration to combat crime and urged them to carryout their responsibilities within the limits of the law.
\nOther speakers including chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area Traditional Rulers Council-His Royal Highness Darius Job David and Paramount Ruler of Aguobiri community-His Royal Highness Bewaigha Odu commended Honourable Target Isaiah Segibo on his administration’s zero tolerance to crime and appealed for its sustenance.
\nMembers of the Vigilante group are: Caterpillar Newton -Chairman,Timinebieri Iseimokumo-Vice chairman and Alberi Odu ThankGod-Secretary.
\nOthers are Wilson Pius, Adam Andrew,Niger Teimowei,Ebipamunu Monday,Niger Francis,Eniye Adiyemiekumo,Ebikeme Court,,Ebi Kala,David Mala,Eric John,Romeo Ebo,Ditonmunu Nabo,Ondotimi Bewaigha,Tonpreyon Ekperi,Winka Nigeria,Tesco Okosu and Zion Bendick.
\nMeanwhile the chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Honourable Target Isaiah Segibo has reassured the people of Southern Ijaw of his administration’s commitment to provide a conducive atmosphere for the protection of lives and properties.
\nIn a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary- Ayebaitari Easterday,the Council Chairman promised enduring improve infrastructural development in the area.
