Following the on-going strike by workers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has disclosed that 10 out of 14 demands made by striking workers have been met, with efforts underway to address the remaining issues. <\/p>\n
The administration also noted that some workers, including those from the Law Officers Association of Nigeria, have distanced themselves from the strike and should be allowed to resume work.<\/p>\n
In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, top FCTA officials have held multiple meetings with union leaders, including sessions over the weekend, to discuss workers’ grievances.<\/p>\n
The meetings revealed that the Minister has been proactive in addressing the demands, with notable achievements including payment of Outstanding Wages, payment of five months’ wage award has commenced, and 13 months’ hazard allowance and 22 months’ rural allowance for health workers have been fully paid.<\/p>\n
Accordingly,N286,166,772.46 in promotion arrears for 724 officers across 24 SDAs has been approved and is being processed.<\/p>\n
While Issues regarding extension of tenure for retired directors and permanent secretaries have been resolved, with strict compliance to Public Service Rules assured.<\/p>\n
On training and retraining, the statement noted that SDAs have been directed to submit training needs to the Permanent Secretary, Common Services.<\/p>\n
The FCTA management, the statement noted noted has appealed to JUAC officials to adopt dialogue in resolving pending issues, emphasizing that the strike action is unnecessary and ill-motivated. <\/p>\n
