In a bid to end the ongoing strike action in FCT, Abuja’s National Industrial Court has blocked the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) workers’ union from continuing their indefinite strike, citing potential disruption to administrative activities. <\/p>\n
The court’s ruling on Thursday, restrained the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) and its members from further industrial action, including picketing and road blockades. <\/p>\n
The FCTA had approached the court, arguing that the strike, initiated over unpaid promotion arrears and other benefits, was illegal and would cripple government operations.<\/p>\n
JUAC leaders, Rifkatu Iortyer and Abdullahi Umar Saleh, were absent from court, leading to the approval of substituted service of legal documents via publication in national newspapers and posting at the FCTA Secretariat.<\/p>\n
The court will review the case on January 26, 2026, focusing on whether the strike complies with the Trade Disputes Act and the legal status of JUAC, which isn’t a registered trade union.<\/p>\n
When contacted, a union leader, speaking anonymously, vowed to defend their actions in court. <\/p>\n
