Fear grips residents of Onitsha commercial hub of Anambra state following the alleged shut down of Onitsha Main Market by Governor Chukwuma Soludo over non compliance of the traders in the market to stop observing the Monday Sit-at-home exercise.<\/p>\n
The governor had this morning stormed the market and ordered that it be shot down for one week in the first instance stating that the shutdown may be extended to one month if after the one week and the traders fail to comply with his order that the Monday Sit-at-home observation be stopped.<\/p>\n
It was gathered that the shutdown followed repeated defiance by traders at the popular Market, who did not open for business despite the warning.<\/p>\n
Recall that Indigenous People of Biafran, IPOB, introduced the said Sit-at-home following the continous detention of Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government.<\/p>\n
The order, which has disrupted economic and social activities across the Southeast for years, was publicly condemned by the Soludo administration, which urged residents to go about their lawful activities without fear.<\/p>\n
The Governor stated that if they don’t open at the expiration of the shut down, the market will be shut down for one month and so on and so forth, pointing out that the closure is a necessary step to protect law-abiding citizens and reinforce the authority of the state, stating that the government cannot stand.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile there has been mixed reactions following the shut down as some see it as the governor playing with their lives by asking them to open their shops without security.<\/p>\n
Others believe it is a welcome development since the Sit-at-home has brought about economic down fall of the Southeast zone adding that not only markets but others like local Governments, banks, schools, offices, among others should reopen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
