{"id":10666,"date":"2026-01-29T20:25:56","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T20:25:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=10666"},"modified":"2026-01-29T20:25:56","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T20:25:56","slug":"senate-moves-to-investigate-poor-execution-of-abuja-kaduna-railway-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2026\/01\/29\/senate-moves-to-investigate-poor-execution-of-abuja-kaduna-railway-contract\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate moves to investigate poor execution of Abuja-Kaduna railway contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By George Mgbeleke <\/p>\n<p>Senate on Thursday at plenary set up an adhoc committee to carry out a thorough investigation on the alleged poor execution of the Abuja &#8211; Kaduna railway contract.<\/p>\n<p>The committee which is to chaired by former Edo State governor and national president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Adams Oshiomhole (APC Edo North), was mandated to find out the sudden malfunctioning, the poor fixing of rail tracks and the use of alleged second hand coaches by the contractor.<\/p>\n<p>Other members of the committee include Senators Osita Ngwu (APC Enugu West), Sahabi Yau (APC Zamfara North), Solomon Adeola (APC Ogun West), and Abdul Ningi (PDP Bauchi Central).<\/p>\n<p>The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio announced the adhoc committee during plenary following an explanatory order raised by Senator Ningi, who expressed worries over the sudden deterioration of Abuja to Kaduna railway which was commissioned in 2015 by the former administration of late President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Ningi explained that the order was strictly raised to also look into the billions of naira generated during the active days of the railway to its present condition and what has happened to the revenue generated by the management.<\/p>\n<p>Angered by poor state the railway, the lawmaker said he had a personal experience by using the train from Abuja to Kaduna.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, he was shocked that &#8220;the transport system that used to carry over 10,000 passengers in a day has suddenly dropped to 800 passengers and most pathetic about it is the number of hours the train struggles to reach its destination which often lasts more than three hours as against the normal one hour to arrive your destination either Abuja to Kaduna or Kaduna to Abuja.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He, therefore, called on the Senate and Nigerians to rise up to the occasion and find out why the Abuja to Kaduna railway has suddenly become malfunctioned.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, the Senate President directed the adhoc committee to extend the investigation to the use of the second hand coaches and the rail tracks.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that an ordinary tricycle might likely get to Kaduna and also makes an attempt to return to Abuja while the train was still on the road.<\/p>\n<p>A situation he considered worrisome and the need to inaugurate an ad-hoc committee to investigate the railway system in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By George Mgbeleke Senate on Thursday at plenary set up an adhoc committee to carry out a thorough investigation on the alleged poor execution of the Abuja &#8211; Kaduna railway contract.
