The Minister of Hajj and Umrah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Mr Tawfiq Al Rabiah is expected in Nigeria today for strategic engagements with key stakeholders on ways to strengthen Hajj and Umrah operations and enhance service delivery for Nigerian pilgrims.<\/p>\n
The visit presents a rare opportunity for Nigeria to review its Hajj and Umrah operational framework, address existing challenges, and align its pilgrimage administration with Saudi Arabia\u2019s evolving vision of prioritising the welfare of the Guests of Al-Rahman.<\/p>\n
Independent Hajj Reporters has called on stakeholders who will interact with the Saudi Minister to present factual, coordinated, and data-driven reports on the state of Nigeria\u2019s Hajj and Umrah industry. Critical issues requiring attention include access to Umrah visas, the downward review of Nigeria\u2019s Hajj quota, local peculiarities in registration requirements, the challenges confronting Private Hajj Operators and the need to domesticate Saudi Arabia\u2019s service-oriented pilgrimage policies.<\/p>\n
Stakeholders should speak with one voice and present verifiable data capable of influencing policy decisions. The engagement, should not be reduced to sentimental appeals but anchored on evidence, statistics, and practical solutions and should be presented by individuals with deep understanding of the Hajj ecosystem.<\/p>\n
Beyond religious obligations, stakeholders need to explore ways to seek the Minister\u2019s cooperation in harnessing the economic potential of the Hajj and Umrah industry, estimated to generate over $12 billion annually and provide employment for more than 1.6 million people.<\/p>\n
As the fifth-largest Hajj-participating country in the world, Nigeria must position itself as a leading hub of Hajj and Umrah activities in Africa and demands for greater recognition, policy inclusion, and strategic partnership with Saudi authorities.<\/p>\n
