Residents of Omoku Town in Ogba\/Egbema\/Ndoni local government area of Rivers State have been thrown into pandemonium following killing of two persons in the area including the President of the Omoku Youth Federation (OYF), Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu by gunmen suspected to be cultists.<\/p>\n
The incident, we gathered occurred around 6pm on Thursday 5th February, 2026 at a popular drinking joint along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road, in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba\/Egbema\/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State.<\/p>\n
Eyewitnesses account revealed that the gunmen, numbering about seven, arrived in two vehicles and abducted Azuazu, while his personal aide, Chigozie Oluwu, was shot dead when he intervened. <\/p>\n
The incident according to him, caused widespread panic in the area as residents and passersby scampered for safety, while business owners hurriedly shut their shops amid fears of further violence.<\/p>\n
Our Correspondent reports that the headless body of the Youth President, Azuazu was later recovered in a forest in Omoku on Friday afternoon by the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC).<\/p>\n
Confirming the incidents to newsmen, OSPAC Spokesperson, Godnews Nkem, said while Chigozie Oluwu was killed during the attack, the youth president was taken away alive but was later murdered and beheaded by his captors.<\/p>\n
\u201cOSPAC operatives, working with other local security networks, recovered the headless body of the Omoku Youth Federation President in a forest on Friday afternoon,\u201d Nkem said.<\/p>\n
Nkem described the killing as brutal and unfortunate, urging residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their hands.<\/p>\n
He added that security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant bodies, have commenced investigations aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible for the killings.<\/p>\n
Residents of Omoku have however, expressed deep fear and anger over the incident, describing it as another blow to peace in the area, even as they called for swift action from the state government and security agencies to avert further attacks.<\/p>\n
The Public Relations Officer of Rivers State Police Command,CSP Grace Iringe Koko confirmed the killing of Chigozie Oluwu as well as the abduction and recovering of the beheaded body of the Omoku youth President, Ifeanyi Azuazu.<\/p>\n
CSP Iringe-Koko stated that the killing is cult related and that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju has ordered a full scale investigation into the incident with a view to apprehending perpetrators. <\/p>\n
