{"id":10967,"date":"2026-02-10T03:35:29","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T03:35:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=10967"},"modified":"2026-02-10T03:35:29","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T03:35:29","slug":"gov-fubara-wike-meet-tinubu-in-fresh-reconciliation-move-to-end-rivers-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2026\/02\/10\/gov-fubara-wike-meet-tinubu-in-fresh-reconciliation-move-to-end-rivers-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov Fubara, Wike Meet Tinubu In Fresh Reconciliation Move To End Rivers Crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Our Correspondent <\/p>\n<p>Ahead of 2027 general elections,Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike have again met with President Bola Tinubu in a fresh reconciliation move to end the lingering the political crisis in Rivers State.<\/p>\n<p>This  latest reconciliatory meeting spareheaded  by President Tinubu, aimed at addressing the root causes of the crisis and finding a lasting solution, was attended by other key political stakeholders from the state last night at Abuja was the second in 2026 that the two leaders are meeting with the president. <\/p>\n<p>Although details of the meeting were not disclosed, but sources say the discussions were believed to be aimed at resolving the prolonged political tensions in the State.<\/p>\n<p>President Tinubu\u2019s latest intervention is seen as another strategic effort to restore peace, stabilize governance, and prevent further escalation of the crisis ahead of future political engagements within the state and the ruling party. <\/p>\n<p>It was also reported that Governor Fubara, after the meeting, accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja, where he allegedly appealed to the minister and pledged to avoid any actions that could be perceived as disrespectful, signalling a possible reconciliation between the two influential political figures.<\/p>\n<p>The disagreement between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike has been widely linked to a struggle for political control and influence in Rivers State, particularly over party structures and governance direction. <\/p>\n<p>Despite several earlier attempts at reconciliation by the President, party leaders and stakeholders, tensions persisted, raising concerns about political stability and governance in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The crisis, which escalated in October 2023 led to a deep division within the Rivers State House of Assembly, with lawmakers splitting into rival factions loyal to the two leaders, resulting impeachment threats against the governor by 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike on three different occasions with the latest in January 2026, and repeated shutdowns of legislative activities in the state and demolition of the state House of Assembly complex.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,Rivers people have appealed to Governor Fubara and the FCT Minister, Wike to embrace lasting peace for the interest and development of the Rivers State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Our Correspondent Ahead of 2027 general elections,Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike have again met with President Bola Tinubu in a fresh reconciliation move to end the lingering the political crisis in Rivers State.
