{"id":1178,"date":"2025-01-13T13:48:38","date_gmt":"2025-01-13T13:48:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=1178"},"modified":"2025-01-13T13:48:38","modified_gmt":"2025-01-13T13:48:38","slug":"senate-decries-mdas-low-remittances-to-federation-account-in-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/01\/13\/senate-decries-mdas-low-remittances-to-federation-account-in-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate Decries MDAs\u2019 Low Remittances to Federation Account in 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Senate has expressed concern over low remittances of revenues generated in 2024 by ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) and some government-owned enterprises (GOEs) to the Federation Account.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman, Joint Finance Committee of Senate and House of Representatives, Senator Sani Musa, stated this in Abuja on Monday at an interactive session on the MDAs\u2019 revenue projections for 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The MDAs at the meeting included: Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).<\/p>\n<p>Others were: Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) and Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC).<\/p>\n<p>Sani said that the Senate was deeply worried about the widening disparity between the substantial revenue accruals to the MDAs and their consistently low remittances to the federation account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis trend undermines the government\u2019s capacity to fund critical infrastructure and social services, calling to question issues of inefficiency, mismanagement and possible revenue leakages,\u201d he said<\/p>\n<p>According to him, his committee\u2019s mandate is to ensure transparency, accountability and efficiency in the financial operations of the agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The senator said that the committee would continue to scrutinise the MDAs\u2019 revenue projections, performance and adherence to statutory remittance obligations.<\/p>\n<p>This, he said, was to identify systematic doubts and recommend actionable results to reverse the troubling patterns.<\/p>\n<p>Sani sought the cooperation and understanding of all stakeholders at the interactive session, saying that it was imperative that accurate data, comprehensive records and open data were presented for the benefit of Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet us approach these tasks with a shared commitment to building a stronger, more accountable fiscal framework for Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI call on all of us to please be very open on all those areas that we know, even if they are not presented to us,\u201d he said<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Senate has expressed concern over low remittances of revenues generated in 2024 by ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) and some government-owned enterprises (GOEs) to the Federation Account.
