A Minna High Court in Niger State,has convicted and sentenced one Godwin Nnena Kalu to a total of eight years imprisonment.<\/p>\n
Nnena Kalu,was arraigned before the Court presided by Justice Balqis Gambo Yusuf by the Kaduna Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFFC).<\/p>\n
The Convict,was convicted on four count charges which bothered on fraud,obtained money by fraud pretence to siphon somebody of his money and intend to defraud forgery transferred telex message.<\/p>\n
According to the EFCC Prosecuting Attorney Austeen Samuel Esq, the four count charges contravened sections 1,(3) 3, and 363 of the EFCC Act.<\/p>\n
While passing her verdict Justice Balqis Gambo Yusuf held that the Prosecutor has proved the four count charges brought against beyond every reasonable doubt \u201cand is hereby convicted as charged\u201d<\/p>\n
At this point his defence Attorney Barrister Daniel Omakor pleaded for leniency on his behalf that the Judge should temper Justice with mercy while convicting him.<\/p>\n
\u201c My Lord, I want you to temper justice with mercy while passing your judgement. He is a first offender. And a bread winner to his family. My Lord you can even see that throughout the trial he has exhibited so much remorse.<\/p>\n
\u201c Im pleading that consider my alocotus by tempering justice with mercy. Apart from being a breadwinner to his family, My Lord,it will interest you to note that his aged parents depend on him for their day-to- day needs.\u201d he pleaded.<\/p>\n
Justice Balqis then further held that \u201c to this end, I considered the plea of alocotus made on behalf of the convict by the defence counsel.<\/p>\n
\u201c For the offence committed under section 1(3) of the EFCC Act,the convict is hereby sentenced to 7 years imprisonment with an option of fine.<\/p>\n
\u201c For the offence of forgery to pay a fine of N N200,000 each for the 3rd and 4th charges is to spend one year imprisonment. All the sentenced is to run concurrently\u201d she declared.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
