{"id":13372,"date":"2026-05-06T12:28:58","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T12:28:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=13372"},"modified":"2026-05-06T12:28:58","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T12:28:58","slug":"wopu-declares-support-for-tinubus-2027-re-election-bid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2026\/05\/06\/wopu-declares-support-for-tinubus-2027-re-election-bid\/","title":{"rendered":"WOPU declares support for Tinubu\u2019s 2027 re-election bid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Our Correspondent <\/p>\n<p>The Working People United (WOPU), a group of professionals across various sectors, has declared support for the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>The National Coordinator-General of WOPU, Mr William Akporeha, made the declaration at the end of the inaugural meeting of the group\u2019s National Working Committee (NWC) on Tuesday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Akporeha said the decision was based on what he described as the impactful policies of the Tinubu administration on members of the group and Nigerians at large.<\/p>\n<p>He commended the NWC for its efforts in mass mobilisation and the digital registration of members across the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the group has recorded over one million registrations nationwide through its digital platforms and is set to hold its inaugural summit later in May.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe summit will highlight the achievements of the administration and provide an opportunity for interaction between the government and working Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will also showcase government activities and provide a platform for working people to present their expectations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Akporeha added that the NWC had resolved to begin the inauguration of WOPU chapters across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to mobilise support for Tinubu\u2019s re-election.<\/p>\n<p>He urged Nigerians to participate in the group\u2019s activities, expressing optimism that current challenges facing the country were temporary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough there is temporary pain, we believe the gains will outweigh the challenges and bring progress to Nigeria,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Akporeha said the group believed that the re-election of Tinubu would consolidate ongoing reforms and drive further economic growth and development.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking, WOPU National Public Relations Officer, Mr Segun Eso, reaffirmed the group\u2019s support for Tinubu\u2019s second term bid.<\/p>\n<p>He said the decision was based on the group\u2019s assessment of the administration\u2019s performance so far.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are convinced by what the President has achieved within his first tenure, and we believe supporting him for a second term is the best way forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eso acknowledged that some government policies had come with challenges but described them as necessary for long-term benefits.<\/p>\n<p>He cited the removal of fuel subsidy as a critical step taken in the interest of the economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor progress to be achieved, some level of sacrifice is required.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe subsidy removal is one of such decisions aimed at strengthening the economy,\u201d Eso said.<\/p>\n<p>He called on Nigerians to support government efforts to address insecurity and enhance economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the meeting was attended by members of the group, including Nigerians in the diaspora, who pledged support for Tinubu\u2019s re-election.
