Ahead of the January 22nd deadline for budget presentation and defence by Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government to joint committees of National Assembly, the Public Account Committee has rejected the submission of the Auditor General of the Federation, Mr Shaakaa Kanyitor Chira for lack of clarity.<\/p>\n
Mr Chira who was responding to questions from members of the committee on the performance of the 2024 allocation to the office of the Auditor General was faced with serious criticism on some of the Expenditures made by his office in the use of the fund allocated to it.<\/p>\n
Fielding questions from journalists on the suspension of the presentation by the Auditor General of the Federation, Chairman of the committee on Public Account, Senate Aliyu Wadada said
\n“For some reasons beyond the control of the committee, the office of the Auditor General of the Federal couldn’t appear for the exercise before today and you have seen in the course of the exercise some of the documents needed were only presented today.<\/p>\n
“But that not withstanding, having gone through what they submitted, you have all heard the various gray areas that members of this committee comparing Senators and members of the House of Representatives raised questions on and office of the Auditor General for the Federation that is saddled with the responsibility of auditing Ministries, Departments and Agencies to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public funds is before this committees.<\/p>\n
“This committee is saddled with the responsibility of auditing the office of the Auditor General and with those gray areas coming from the office of the Auditor General, it rest on us to do the needful and the needful is for us to suspend the defence of treating the budget of the office of the Auditor General for the Federation until those gray areas are cleared and that is why we suspend the exercise.<\/p>\n
When they correct the mixing links in the budget, they can come back to us to represent their budget for approval.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
