{"id":14449,"date":"2026-06-09T15:36:25","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T15:36:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=14449"},"modified":"2026-06-09T15:36:25","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T15:36:25","slug":"group-hails-military-over-borno-rescue-seeks-urgent-action-on-oyo-kidnap-victims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2026\/06\/09\/group-hails-military-over-borno-rescue-seeks-urgent-action-on-oyo-kidnap-victims\/","title":{"rendered":"Group hails military over Borno rescue, seeks urgent action on Oyo kidnap victims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Abdul-Ganiyy Akanbi <\/p>\n<p>The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria, (MMWG), has commended the Nigerian military and the Federal Government for the rescue of over 400 victims of terrorism in Borno State this week, while calling for urgent efforts to secure the release of kidnapped victims in Oyo State.<\/p>\n<p>In a press statement released on Tuesday and jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, and National Secretary, Dr. Nasir Balogun, the group described the Borno rescue as \u201ccommendable and reassuring\u201d that other captives would soon regain freedom.<\/p>\n<p>The group expressed concern over reports that some Oyo abductees are falling sick, with fears that some might lose their lives. <\/p>\n<p>It appealed to the Federal Government to intensify efforts to secure the release of the innocent children, their teachers and principal held in captivity \u201cfor the sake of humanity\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe group therefore appealed for early negotiation to free the innocent victims as non-kinetic approach would prevent casualty and collateral damages that usually feature in military action,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on a viral video in which Oyo kidnap victims denied that terrorists demanded the establishment of Sharia Law or N1 billion ransom, the group said the denial \u201cfurther exposed fake-news purveyors\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to the group, Mrs. Racheal Alamu, who identified herself as the wife of a professor in Oyo State, said the abductors \u201cnever demanded money, transportation logistics nor forced them to practice Islam\u201d, but were instead \u201cdemanding for the release of their leaders arrested since last year\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The group described those spreading the contrary claims as \u201cpeddling falsehood and fake-news of what terrorists did not demand\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Islam, there is no compulsion in religion\u2019 and that Sharia is already in practice in Nigeria&#8230;as in the South West Muslims are still running \u00a1 Sharia Council without any inhibition whatsoever,&#8221; it stated.<\/p>\n<p>While commending the Federal Government \u201con its war against all criminalities in this country\u201d, the MMWG appealed for the fast-tracking of rescue efforts for victims in Oyo State and \u201call others across the country\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Abdul-Ganiyy Akanbi The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria, (MMWG), has commended the Nigerian military and the Federal Government for the rescue of over 400 victims of terrorism in Borno State this week, while calling for urgent efforts to secure the release of kidnapped victims in Oyo State.
