Residents,Transporters and commuters on Saturday escaped a deadly tragedy at Nkpor area of Onitsha in Anambra State following the fall of a 40-foot trailer carrying a container over a flyover along the Enugu-Onitsha express way.<\/p>\n
The trailer was said to have plunged from the Nkpor Flyover into the ever-busy New Parts Market area, leaving no casualties.<\/p>\n
According to eyewitnesses account,the trailer was transporting a 40-foot container when it reportedly suffered brake failure on approaching the flyover.<\/p>\n
Witnesses said the driver made frantic efforts to regain control of the vehicle but was unsuccessful. <\/p>\n
The trailer crashed from the flyover and landed on the Awka\u2013Onitsha Expressway at about 9:00 a.m.<\/p>\n
Vehicles affected by the crash include, a Volkswagen wagon, a commercial bus, and a tricycle (popularly known as a Keke), but none of the vehicles had occupants at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n
As of the time of filing this report, the driver of the trailer was yet to be located. <\/p>\n
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had yet to issue an official statement on the incident. <\/p>\n
Efforts to reach the FRSC Public Relations Officer, Margaret Onabe failed as calls placed to her phone line failed to connect.<\/p>\n
Despite the heavy human and vehicular traffic usually associated with the area on daily basis, no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
