\n\u200eThe emergence of Prof Christopher Nyong Ekong, the first indigenous Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo has been described as a signal that better things are coming to Offot Ukwa Clan and Uyo people in general.

\n\u200eThe chairman of Offot Ukwa Stakeholders’ central planning committee for the reception ceremony held in honour of the inaugurated 9th substantive Vice Chancellor of the Great UNIUYO, Obong Nse Ufia (Abai Uyo) gave the indication during the ceremony at St Patrick’s Primary School, Abak Road when he addressed the gathering.

\n\u200eObong Nse Ufia who described the development as a landmark achievement for Offot Ukwa people said the celebration is a thing of Joy, pride and fulfilment to the community.

\n\u200e”we the entire Offot Ukwa people have been here to celebrate elevation of Prof Chris Ekong as the first Offot Ukwa son to become VC of UNIUYO which shall bring a great light to our people and we so proud of him. When we look in through the mirror we can see that good things are coming to Offot Ukwa and good things are coming to Uyo people, the Abai Uyo, Obong Nse Ufia said.

\n\u200eOn his remarks, the president of Offot Ukwa Youth Council Prince John Ekpenyong described the event as a memorable one and thanked friends and guests who came to show solidarity with the Offot Ukwa people in the celebration saying it shows the high esteem Prof Chris Ekong is held.

\n\u200ePrince Ekpenyong poured encomiums on the VC with a view that his humility has brought development and progress to Uyo and Offot Ukwa people and prayed God to continue to give him wisdom to pilot affairs of his new office.

\n\u200eResponding, the VC Prof Christopher Ekong appreciated Offot Ukwa Stakeholders and the entire Uyo people for their show of love and solidarity and appealed to them to see the VC as their project and guide against it as he is one of their own.
\n\u200e”Da Idong ema uma, uma, when your people love you, you are loved. I am really impressed by this show of love, I want you to see me your own and be part of me, says Prof Ekong.

\n\u200eThe epoch making occasion which attracted dignitaries from across Akwa Ibom and beyond had the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, Edidem Sylvanus Okon JP, other traditional Rulers, women and youths groups as well as Elders of Offot Ukwa, Etoi, Oku and Ikono Uyo, Uyo in academic a platform which Chris Ekong is a member, featured cultural performances amongst other things.

\n\u200eMeanwhile, according to a press release by the Chairman Media Committee on event, Mr Emmanuel Ikpe, chairman central planning committee of the Offot Ukwa Stakeholders for the reception ceremony held in honour of the 9th substantive and first indigenous Vice Chancellor of the Great University of Uyo, Obong Nse Ufia uses this medium to appreciate first the God Almighty for his grace and benevolence, and most especially the clement weather and safety he had given throughout the initiation, planning and execution of the epoch making event.
