{"id":15758,"date":"2026-07-21T13:34:43","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T13:34:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=15758"},"modified":"2026-07-21T13:34:43","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T13:34:43","slug":"former-sports-minister-gimba-drags-adc-to-court-over-election-of-hon-agale-as-its-candidate-to-represent-niger-south-senatorial-district","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2026\/07\/21\/former-sports-minister-gimba-drags-adc-to-court-over-election-of-hon-agale-as-its-candidate-to-represent-niger-south-senatorial-district\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Sports Minister, Gimba drags ADC to Court over election of Hon Agale as its Candidate to represent  Niger South Senatorial district"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Uthman Baba-Naseer,Minna<\/p>\n<p>Former Minister of sport Barrister Abdulrahaman Gimba,has dragged the African Democratic Congress (ADC),to Federal High Court Minna challenging the primary election that produce  Rt.Hon Baba Shehu \u00c0gaie as the the party&#8217;s candidate for the Southern Senatorial District  (Zone) of Niger State.<\/p>\n<p>Abdulrahman Gimba, also Minna based legal practitioner, filed the suit before Federal High Court Minna challenged the outcome of the primary.<\/p>\n<p>In the suit FHC\/ MN\/ CS 55\/2026 alleged that the primary election was not conducted in some local government areas and some wards in the zone.<\/p>\n<p>Joint in the suite includes ADC as first defendant Baba Shehu Agaie as second defendant and INEC as third defendant respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Barrister Gimba who approach the court through his counsel Mohammed Gimba leading three other counsel prayed the court to nullify the said election claiming that the election was not conducted as claimed by the second defendant <\/p>\n<p>The plaintiff also alleged that the second dependant was not qualified to contest the election as he is still the leader of the as at the time of the election which contravene the relevant section of the electoral act 2025.<\/p>\n<p>At the resume sitting on the case which was slated for hearing counsel to the defendant Barrister Abdulrahaman  Siraj,  for the adjournment as some parties in the matter were yet to file their response <\/p>\n<p>At this point, Justice Muhammad  Sa\u2019idu Barau,adjourned the matter to 22nd and 23rd July, 2026 to enable the first dependant served the plaintiff his statement of defence and as well allowed the plaintiff respond to process of the defence counsels before the commencement of hearing<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Journalists, the counsel to the defendant, Abdulrahaman Siraj Esq, stated that the plaintiff approached the court   contending that election was not conducted in certain wards and local government areas.<\/p>\n<p>Also,the plaintiff contended that the second defendant was not qualified to contest the   primary election as at the time he contested on the ground that he was still the leader of the party as he did not resign his position from the party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c So we have filed the necessary processes on behalf of the second defendant.
