Ahead of Saturday Osun governorship election,Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Chief Whip of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Wale Akerele, popularly known as \u201cWater,\u201d of shooting during its campaign rally in Ilesa, leaving four people injured.<\/p>\n
The party alleged that one Tobi Ilesanmi, a young boy who was said to be in his mother\u2019s shop, Mohammed, a Sienna traveller driver was hit by a stray bullet; Wasiu Alanide, a member of the APC was allegedly shot and Aderemi Adedeji, who was allegedly macheted.<\/p>\n
Addressing newsmen about the development, the chairman, media and publicity of the APC governorship campaign council, Engr. Remi Omowaiye, alleged that the incident occurred during a peaceful ward-to-ward campaign organised by the party, which commenced from Omofe and was proceeding towards the party secretariat for Wards 4 and 5.<\/p>\n
According to him, Akerele reportedly drove past the procession before allegedly firing shots into the air, causing panic among participants as they scrambled for safety. <\/p>\n
He further alleged that Akerele later returned with personnel of the Amotekun Corps, who purportedly fired at the crowd, triggering a stampede.<\/p>\n
Omowaiye called on the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, and the Director of the Department of State Services, to intervene, insisting that the APC wants a peaceful election.<\/p>\n
Another APC chieftain, Folarin Fafowora, who witnessed the incident, said the rally was almost over when Akerele\u2019s vehicle overtook the procession but before he could understand what was happening, a gunshot was heard, causing people to run in different directions.<\/p>\n
Fafowora said that policemen were present when Akerele returned, alleging that the Amotekun personnel protected him while shots were being fired. <\/p>\n
Reacting to the incident, the Public Relations Officer, of the Osun State Police Command said, \u201cThe incident reportedly occurred when some suspected armed men alighted from a vehicle with registration number OSHA 04 and allegedly fired sporadically in the vicinity of the ongoing political procession. Some of the individuals involved were reportedly dressed as personnel of the Osun State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun.<\/p>\n
\u201cThree persons, namely Tobi Ilesanmi ‘M’, Wasiu Alanide ‘M’, and Aderemi Adedeji ‘M’, reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the incident. They have been evacuated to a hospital where they are currently receiving medical attention and responding to treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said that the command is also investigating allegations linking another individual, Wale Akerele, to the incident, stressing that the claim remained an allegation and that no person should be presumed guilty before the conclusion of the investigation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
