\nThe Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the list of candidates for the 2027 Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections by three days, citing appeals from parties for more time.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued on Saturday, 8th August 2026 by National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the Commission also announced the suspension of the printing of downloadable Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, in Osun State from midnight of Sunday, 9th August 2026 ahead of the 15th August governorship election.<\/p>\n
According to INEC, the submission window for parties to upload the list of their governorship and state assembly candidates on the dedicated portal was earlier scheduled to close on Saturday, 8th August 2026.<\/p>\n
Following requests from political parties, the Commission has now extended the deadline to Tuesday, 11th August 2026.<\/p>\n
The extension affects candidates contesting in the February 2027 General Election.<\/p>\n
In a related development, INEC said voters in Osun State who applied for replacement of lost, damaged or defaced PVCs will no longer be able to print downloadable copies of their cards after midnight of Sunday, 9th August 2026.<\/p>\n
The Commission explained that the shutdown is to enable it to compile data of downloaded PVCs for the final statistics of total PVCs collected ahead of the Osun State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, 15th August 2026.<\/p>\n
INEC recalled that PVC collection in Osun commenced at the Registration Area, RA, level from 22nd to 28th July 2026.<\/p>\n
Due to complaints of large crowds and difficulties at collection centres, the Commission approved an extension of RA-level collection to 31st July 2026.<\/p>\n
Collection was thereafter moved to the Local Government Area level and ran from 1st to 7th August 2026.<\/p>\n
The Commission also confirmed that replacement downloadable PVCs have been made available to voters in Odo-Otin and Ife Central Local Government Areas whose original cards were carted away by hoodlums who invaded the two collection centres.<\/p>\n
INEC, however, reiterated that the stolen cards cannot be used to vote, as they have been invalidated in the system.<\/p>\n
Reassuring residents of the state, INEC said it is fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election in Osun on 15th August 2026.<\/p>\n
The Commission urged political parties to take advantage of the extended window to complete their candidate submissions and advised voters to adhere to the new timeline for PVC-related processes.<\/p>\n
