Joe Ajaero and NUC President Comr. Festus Osifo with government delegation led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)Sen. George Akume on how to resolve the disagreement between Labour and government\u00a0 and suspend the looming nationwide strike on Monday.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Meanwhile,National Assembly had\u00a0 acknowledged the announcement by Organised Labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), to commence an indefinite strike action from Monday, June 3, 2024, nationwide.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The decision followed the deadlock between the Federal Government and the Labour Unions in agreeing on a new national minimum wage and reversal of the recent hike in electricity tariffs.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">in a statement jointly signed by Spokesman of the Senate,\u00a0 Senator Yemi Adaramodu\u00a0 and his House of Representative counterpart, Hon. Akin Rotimi, Jr, said,&#8221; As a responsive parliament, the leadership of the National Assembly, comprising the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, is taking proactive steps to mediate and avert the impending industrial action, which would have severe repercussions on the populace and economy.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;The National Assembly noted that both parties have tenable reasons for their respective positions.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;In view of this, the National Assembly Leadership and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Labour, Employment and Productivity respectively, Senator Diket Plang, and Rep. Adegboyega Adefarati, are looking to engage both parties in constructive dialogue and explore a variety of solutions in addressing the issues at hand.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Continuing the statement noted,&#8221;The 10th National Assembly is committed to ensuring that the interests of all parties are fairly represented.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;We further urge all stakeholders to remain patient and co-operative as we work diligently to find a mutually acceptable resolution in the best interest of the country.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Consequently, the meeting of the National Assembly leadership and Federal government delegation led by Secretary to the Federal government and leadership of Organized Labour are right now on a closed door meeting on how to resolve the lingering agitation by labour for wage increase.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The meeting being chaired by President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In attendance were : Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Minister of Finance and Economy, Mr Wake Edu, information and National Orientation Minister, Mr Mohammed Idris Malagi, Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Atiku\u00a0 Bagudu, Labour and Productivity, Hon Nkiruka Onyejiocha, and\u00a0 Minister of Africa.
