Pantami won the rerun primary.

His participation in the 2027 election was thrown into doubt following a Supreme Court judgment delivered on September 24.

The judgment restored Sections 77(5), (6), (7) and 84(2) of the Electoral Act 2026. The provisions bar political parties from presenting candidates whose names were not included in the membership register submitted to INEC within the required period.

Amid the uncertainty over Pantami’s candidacy, Mohammed Haruna, an INEC national commissioner, had suggested that some political parties might not field candidates in the 2027 elections because of the Supreme Court ruling.

By our correspondent As the 2027 election draws close, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has been left out of the final list of candidates for the February 6, 2027, governorship election in Gombe State.
