Senate on Wednesday at plenary approved an amendment to clauses 14 and 15 of the acts\u00a0 establishing the<\/div>\n
North-west,South -West and South -East Development Commissions.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Also\u00a0 amended is clause 4 (1) of 2025 National Youth Service Corps\u00a0 Trust\u00a0 Fund\u00a0 Establishment Bill.<\/div>\n

The approval is sequel the presentation of a motion\u00a0 “titled “Re-commital\u00a0 of Bills\u00a0 to the Committee of the Whole “<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The motion was sponsored by leader of the Senate Sen.Bamidele\u00a0 Opeyemi (APC-Ekiti).<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Bamidela in his motion recalled that North-West, South -West, South -East Development\u00a0 Commissions and the National Youth Service Corps Trust Fund\u00a0 establishment Bills 2025 were earlier passed\u00a0 by the Senate and House of Representatives .<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
According to him, the bills had been\u00a0 forwarded to Clerk to the National Assembly, for onward transmission to President Bola Tinubu for assent.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He, however, said Senate observed that the funding clauses for the commissions and the proposed\u00a0 fund\u00a0 to be established as provided in the bills appeared to contradict section 162\u00a0 of the 1999 Constitution\u00a0 as amended.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He said\u00a0 section 1, subsections (1 ) and 3 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended provides that the constitution is supreme and any law that contradicts the constitution shall be null and void to the extent of the contradiction.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Bamidela said mindful that senate should not work in vain and should be seen to be observing the constitution\u00a0 like any other authority and persons in Nigeria relied on orders 1(b) and 52(6) of its standing order 2023 as amended\u00a0 to rescind its decisions on the affected clauses of the development commissions bills , NYSC Trust Fund Bill.<\/div>\n

This , he noted resulted in the\u00a0 committal of the bills to Committee of the Whole for reconsideration and passage.<\/div>\n

He listed the affected clauses to include clause 14 of 2025\u00a0 North-West, South-West- Development Commissions Establishment\u00a0 Bills, clause\u00a0 15 of\u00a0 \u00a0South -East Development\u00a0 Commission Establishment Bill and\u00a0 clause 4 (1)of\u00a0 the National Youth Service Corps Trust Fund\u00a0 Establishment Bill 2025.<\/div>\n

After the bills were passed, President of Senate Godswill Akpabio said all the development commissions\u00a0 acts\u00a0 are\u00a0 in conformity\u00a0 with the Constitution, saying that\u00a0 the acts shall\u00a0 be transmitted to President Bola Tinubu\u00a0 for assent.<\/div>\n
