Following the power tussle among leading political parties in\u00a0 Osun state a couple of days ago,the Nigerian Police has confirmed the death of six persons during the local government takeover in the state.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It would be recalled\u00a0 that no fewer than five people had been reportedly killed as the All Progressive Congress and People\u2019s Democratic Party in the state, clashed over the take over of local government offices across the state.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Osun Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola while confirming the ugly incident expressed her\u00a0 condolences to the families of the victims, assured thorough investigation on the case.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
According to her,\u201cthe event of yesterday left six people dead and many people are hospitalized.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cWe are not happy with what happened yesterday, and various groups have been called for meeting, we have held series of meetings by the Commissioner of Police to ensure that this does not happen.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cWe expressed deepest sympathy with those affected that either lost their lives and property. The CP assure thorough investigation and promise that perpetrators face full wrath of law.<\/div>\n

“Citizens are urged to remain calm and patient as police work to restore peace. Those causing this trouble should desist from this act. This state is known for peace. We won\u2019t allow anyone to disrupt the peace of our state.<\/div>\n

\u201cThe IGP has deployed mobile policemen from outside the state to Osun, they have arrived yesterday night. The command will leave no stone unturned to achieve peace. Let us give peace a chance.\u201d<\/div>\n

    Meanwhile, the slain local government chairman of Irewolede Local Government, was laid to rest amid tears in Ikire on Tuesday.<\/div>\n

    Daily Echoes Media gathered that , one of the sacked Local Government chairmen in Osun State Mr. Remi Abass, has been reportedly shot dead.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    Meanwhile,the Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in the state, Tajudeen Lawal had directed the purported reinstated chairmen in the state to stay clear of the LG Secretariat, to honour the slain chairman.<\/div>\n

    According to him, \u201cthe Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed its condolences to the immediate and political families of Honourable Remi Abass, the Chairman of Irewole Local Government Council Area of the state, who was killed by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP’s political hoodlums in the ancient town of Ikire yesterday.<\/div>\n

    \u201cI directed the other chairmen and their councillors to stay off their respective council secretariat as a sign of respect for their fallen colleagues until further notice assured them that the late Abass would not be killed in vain.\u201c<\/div>\n

    Ogundokun condemns Osun council violence, preaches peace<\/div>\n

    Consequently, an Elder statesman in the state, Chief Abiola Ogundokun, has urged the people of Osun State to desist from violence and embrace peace.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    Oyedokun, in a statement on Tuesday, condemned violent attacks recorded on Monday in many parts of the state by some politicians in the aftermath of the judgement of the Court of Appeal, sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital over the 2022 Osun State local government election.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    According to him, “This is not the time for anybody or group to start apportioning blames and to pass bucks. Everyone should allow peace to reign, enough of violent statements and attacks\u00a0 against one another. It is dangerous for the state to be turned into a theatre of war.<\/div>\n
    <\/div>\n
    “It is regrettable and worrisome to see Osun, which is one of the most peaceful states in the country, experiencing unrest and violence in a dangerous dimension. The governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, as a matter of fact, must initiate a peace process as father of the state.<\/div>\n

    “Fortunately enough, I am not a stranger to the Adeleke family, right from the time the governor’s late elder brother, Alhaji Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, started politics in the early 90’s and so also I am quite familiar and close to the state former governor and incumbent Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola.
