The Senate on Thursday at plenary urged the National Judicial Commission (NJC) to quickly wade into the purported removal of Chief Judge of Benue state by the state House of Assembly.<\/p>\n
The upper chamber also mandated its committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and legal matters to investigate the circumstances leading to the removal of the Chief of Benue state, Justice M A Ikpambese.<\/p>\n
It also condemned the action of the leadership of the state Assembly and urge it to recall the suspended members of the House that voted against the removal of the Chief Judge.<\/p>\n
These resolutions of the Senate followed a point of order by the minority leader of the Senate, Senator Abba Moro (,Benue South )and seconded by Senator Titus zam(Benue North west).<\/p>\n
In his submission, Senator Moro noted that the leadership of the Benue House of Assembly purported to have received a letter from the Attorney General of the state informing the Hose of some infractions committed by the Chief Judge of the State.<\/p>\n
According to the minority leader, whereas about 21 members of the House were physically present at the sitting of Wednesday at Benue House of Assembly and when the speaker called for division to decide the removal of the Chief Judge,about 13 members voted against while only 8 voted in favour, yet the speaker ruled in their favour.<\/p>\n
And when the 13 lawmakers protested against the removal of the Chief Judge, the leadership of the Assembly suspended them thereby causing constitutional crisis in the House in particular and Benue State in general.<\/p>\n
He therefore called on the Senate to intervene in restoring peace in the Parliament.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
