Nine inmates awaiting trial at the Minna Old Federal Medium Correctional centre\u00a0 were\u00a0 released on bail while five others serving various jail terms were pardoned by the Chief Judge of Niger State Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik during her two days working visit to the center.<\/div>\n

Similarly,the Chief Judge ordered for the retrial of fifteen inmates who were standing trial on various Offences and were awaiting trial at the correctional Custody.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
During the special court proceedings at the correctional centre\u00a0 the Chief Judge ordered for the review of their cases with the directive to give them lighter convictions to commence from the date of their arrest and detention.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Chief Judge also reviewed the cases of those inmates languishing in Correctional Facilities without their Case files being transmitted to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in the Ministry of Justice for legal advice.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Justice Halima attended to some cases of inmates standing trial involving kidnapping, phone snatching, rapes culpable homicide while their cases were still ongoing at the High court.<\/div>\n

She directed the state Coordinator of the Legal Aid fielding questions from Journalists in (LAC), in Niger State, Barrister Bolanle Jibogun and the Human Right Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Barrister Adamu Abugi to apply for their bail at the High court.<\/div>\n

While those that their trial is still ongoing should continue their detention in the Custody pending the determination of their case at the court.<\/div>\n

Fielding Questions from Journalists shortly after the exercise the Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik expressed concern on the refusal of the Police prosecutors to comply with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA),<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik who spoke through the Chief Registrar of the state High Court Hajiya Lamide Musa Saidu explained that police prosecutors with relevant legal background will now be allowed to prosecute cases in the Magistrate court.<\/div>\n

Speaking earlier,the state Controller of the the Nigeria Correctional Service (NcoS) Niger State Command, Alhaji Ahusa Aliyu commended the Chief Judge for the visit.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He said the visit has assisted in decongestion the Facility\u00a0 to a reasonable level assuring that those released will now breath the air of freedom.<\/div>\n

He suggested that the court should now adopt the methods of non Custodial conviction to some minor cases that needed not be brought to Correctional Custody.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
