{"id":2888,"date":"2025-03-21T09:57:48","date_gmt":"2025-03-21T09:57:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=2888"},"modified":"2025-03-21T09:57:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T09:57:48","slug":"why-we-dont-accept-iij-certificate-bayelsa-hos-nuj-mulls-media-summit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/03\/21\/why-we-dont-accept-iij-certificate-bayelsa-hos-nuj-mulls-media-summit\/","title":{"rendered":"Why We Don&#8217;t Accept IIJ Certificate &#8211; Bayelsa HOS   &#8211; NUJ Mulls Media Summit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By David Owei, Yenagoa.<\/p>\n<p>The Bayelsa state Head of service Barr Mrs Biobelemoye Onyema- Charles has given reasons why the state government has continued to deny Bayelsans who obtained certificates from the International Institute of Journalism, affiliated to the University of Maiduguri due to an enhanced policy that have denied civil servants promotion and career advancement.<\/p>\n<p>She made the revelation when the Chairman of NUJ, Bayelsa state Council paid her a courtesy call.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, the state appreciate the essence of training and retraining of civil servants for enhance productivity and efficiency, but for the non recognition of the certificate from IIJ by the state civil service it was based on policy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221; On non recognition of certificate from IIJ, an affiliate of University of Maiduguri, the state only accepts and recognized certificate from Nigeria Institute of Journalism, (NIJ ) Lagos , but University of Maiduguri is a long distance program with certain kilometer range and if you exceed it . That is why we do not recognize IIJ Certificate, because it has exceded it&#8217;s catchment area in distance learning&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She further stressed &#8220;Bayelsans know the that policy is black and white that IIJ Certificate is not recognized.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She however promised to support the union in training and retraining, because with right and qualified journalists the state can enjoy balance reportage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221; Your reportage can have either negative or positive effects on the state&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the state Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha had sought the assistance of the office of the head of service for training and retraining of it&#8217;s members, accommodation and assistance in it&#8217;s proposed media summit to be organized by the state council soon.<\/p>\n<p>He &#8221; said when we came onboard we embarked on membership audit to ascertain the certification of practicing Journalists in the state, but the report from that committee revealed that less than 30% were not certificated and<br \/>\nthis is not healthy and we are poised to change the narrative as the exercise was not meant to witchunt members&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; By David Owei, Yenagoa.
