{"id":2970,"date":"2025-03-25T09:06:40","date_gmt":"2025-03-25T09:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=2970"},"modified":"2025-03-25T09:06:40","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T09:06:40","slug":"inec-receives-petition-to-recall-senator-natasha-akpoti-uduaghan-as-the-kogi-female-senator-vows-not-to-apologize-to-senate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/03\/25\/inec-receives-petition-to-recall-senator-natasha-akpoti-uduaghan-as-the-kogi-female-senator-vows-not-to-apologize-to-senate\/","title":{"rendered":"INEC receives petition to recall senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan   &#8230;As the Kogi female Senator vows not to apologize to Senate\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">By George Mgbeleke,Abuja<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on Monday received a petition to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Uduaghan from the 10th Senate.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The petition was submitted by the constituents of Kogi Central Senatorial District to recall Natasha having signed the petition which claimed to have met the requirements as stipulated by the Constitution 1990 as amended.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div id=\"attachment_2447\" style=\"width: 299px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2447\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2447\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG-20250303-WA0161-289x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"289\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG-20250303-WA0161-289x300.jpg 289w, https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG-20250303-WA0161.jpg 682w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2447\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Our correspondent who monitored\u00a0 the development at the Maitama headquarter of INEC report that the petition was submitted with over 250,000 signatures out of 480,000 registered voters.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Constitution however required above 50% registered voters\u2019 recall signatures before it could be recognised and acceptable<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Senator Natasha is currently on suspension for six months for breaching Senate Rules and has proceeded to Court to challenge the Senate decision which was yet to determined.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">She also alleged sexual harassment by the Senate President, Godswill Obot Akpabio.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0Daily Echoes Media gathered that the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has highjacked the recall which is being pursued through proxies disguised as constituents in order to contest for the Senate if the exercise succeeds.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Meanwhile has vowed that she would never apologize to the Senate or it&#8217;s President, Godswill Akpabio based on her allegedly sexual harassment claims.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;I, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stand firm in my resolve to never apologise for speaking my truth. The desperation to silence me is palpable, but I will not be intimidated.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;The games being played in full view of the Nigerian people will be exposed, and the corrupt individuals who have hijacked our institutions will be held accountable.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;As a senator, I have a duty to represent my constituents and uphold the principles of justice and transparency. My allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio were not made lightly, and I will continue to seek justice and accountability, no matter the cost.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Continuing she said,&#8221;My six-month suspension is a clear case of political victimisation, but I will not be deterred. I will continue to fight for the rights of Nigerian women and ensure that our voices are heard.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;I urge the public to ignore the viral report claiming that I apologised to the Senate, as it is entirely false.
