{"id":3023,"date":"2025-03-26T20:45:49","date_gmt":"2025-03-26T20:45:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=3023"},"modified":"2025-03-26T20:45:49","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T20:45:49","slug":"nigeria-army-blames-nations-economic-loss-environmental-pollution-on-use-of-illegally-refined-oil-gas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/03\/26\/nigeria-army-blames-nations-economic-loss-environmental-pollution-on-use-of-illegally-refined-oil-gas\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria Army blames nation&#8217;s economic loss, environmental pollution on use of illegally refined oil, gas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By Philip Ezuma, Port Harcourt<\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria army has blamed the nation&#8217;s economic woes, environmental degradation among others on the use of illegally refined oil and gas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Millions of dollars is lost annually to illegal bunkering activities.<br \/>\nThe consequences go far beyond economic benefits, as there are serious threats to our environment.<\/p>\n<p>Illegal bunkering leads to pollution of our environment, fire explosions and much more\u201d he affirmed.<\/p>\n<p>The General Officer Commanding GOC 6 Division, Nigeria Army Brigadier General Effiong Asuquo, made the observation, yesterday, during a-one-day sensitization workshop, on the &#8216;implications of the use of illegally processed oil and gas products&#8217; in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking further, the Chief host, Brig. General Effiong Asuquo represented by Lt. Col. Orobosa Igheghe, stated that the one-day event was organized to remind Nigerians of the danger of the use of illegally refined oil and gas products, and to seek ways to prevent them.<\/p>\n<p>The one-day workshop which was organized by 6 Division Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt drew participants&#8217; attention to the pains and sufferings, illegal refining of petroleum products had brought upon people and their economic life, in the Niger Delta.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the workshop was veritable as it presented a platform for end users, community leaders, stakeholders and industry players, to agree on ways to mitigate the perennial use of illegally refined petroleum products in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The GOC advocated for the need to build collaborations among stakeholders and all concerned, to come to the realization of how dangerous the use of illegally refined oil and gas are, and put to an end a practice inimical to public safety.<\/p>\n<p>He urged that commercial motor drivers, trucks and tanker drivers need be educated on the danger of patronizing illegally refined oil and gas products in the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221; The practice, if stopped would also put a stop to illegal refining of petroleum products in the Niger Delta.<br \/>\nLet us work together to make a difference&#8221;, he advised<\/p>\n<p>The GOC urged participants to work together and create awareness on the danger of the use of illegally refined oil and gas products in the Niger Delta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we stop to buy illegally refined oil and gas products, illegal bunkering will stop,&#8221; he summed up. ###.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; By Philip Ezuma, Port Harcourt The Nigeria army has blamed the nation&#8217;s economic woes, environmental degradation among others on the use of illegally refined oil and gas. &#8220;Millions of dollars is lost annually to illegal bunkering activities.
