The Nigeria Police Force, Tivers police command, has detained the President of the Niger Delta Congress (NDC) over allegedly planned protest, against President Bola Tinubu\u2019s declaration of a ‘state of emergency’ in Rivers State.<\/p>\n
The NDC leader was arrested in Port Harcourt on Tuesday and is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).<\/p>\n
Sources reveal that the police had initially invited the NDC\u2019s Spokesperson, Mudiaga Ogboru, over his vocal opposition to the emergency rule and his call for protests. However, instead of waiting for Ogboru, authorities arrested the NDC President.<\/p>\n
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO Supretendent of Police SP Grace Iringe-Koko noted the NDC President was invited by the police for questioning, regarding his uttrances in the impose ‘State of emergency’ .<\/p>\n
“If however the invitation has resulted to detention, l can’t say for sure. The information l have about the issue currently is rather little, but ll comment fully on it, when l get full details, “she explained out.<\/p>\n
Confirming the situation, Ogboru stated that he received invitations from both the Lagos and Rivers State Police Commands, regarding the planned protest.<\/p>\n
Activists and civil rights groups have condemned the arrest, calling it an attempt to stifle opposition and suppress voices critical of Tinubu\u2019s controversial emergency rule in Rivers State. ###.<\/p>\n
