Governor Alex Chioma Otti, of Abia state has urged the Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Abia State chapter to take proactive steps in propagating and preserving Igbo culture.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Gov. Orji who gave this charge when the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Umuahia, stressed the importance of promoting the Igbo language in schools .<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
According to him, his administration has made the Igbo language a compulsory subject in both Basic and Secondary schools.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u00a0He\u00a0 said that a community without a firm grasp of its cultural identity risks extinction. He lamented that many Igbo youths have deviated from the core values of hard work with\u00a0 integrity and indulging in fraudulent activities in pursuit of quick wealth.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Governor, represented by the Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba (PhD), stressed the need for a well-defined roadmap to guide the organization\u2019s objectives.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He encouraged Ohanaeze to establish strong youth wings in schools to foster cultural awareness and leadership development among young Igbos.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He also urged the organization to bridge the gap between the older and younger generations, ensuring that Igbo heritage remains a guiding principle for future generations.<\/div>\n

“It is good that one of your cardinal policies is to propagate Igbo culture. Governor Otti , being a visionary leader, has recognized the need to reintroduce the Igbo language in our various schools because a people who abandon their culture and traditions will soon become extinct.<\/div>\n

” Our people must know who we are, what we have gone through, and how we have arrived where we are today.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“We have a history behind what we do, and culture is central to any form of development. The Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo of today must begin to address this critical challenge. We are a people who value hard work. We are industrious, creative, and intelligent. We do not beg for survival that is not our culture. This present Ohanaeze must sit down and envision the kind of Igbo society we want to build” he said<\/div>\n

In their contributions, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Budget and Planning, Sir Eric Egwuibe, and his Trade and Investment counterpart, Chief Nwaka Innem, expressed confidence in Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Abia chapter\u2019s ability to live up to expectations. They reiterated the importance of accountability and strategic planning in the organization\u2019s operations, emphasizing that government support would be contingent upon transparency and effectiveness.<\/div>\n

Earlier in his address, the President of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Abia State Chapter, Dr. Chukwuemeka Okwuonu, had applauded Governor Otti for his remarkable developmental strides and commitment to the advancement of Abia State.<\/div>\n
