{"id":3514,"date":"2025-04-19T20:16:35","date_gmt":"2025-04-19T20:16:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=3514"},"modified":"2025-04-19T20:25:00","modified_gmt":"2025-04-19T20:25:00","slug":"one-dead-12-rescued-in-lagos-building-collapse-nema","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/04\/19\/one-dead-12-rescued-in-lagos-building-collapse-nema\/","title":{"rendered":"One dead, 12 rescued in Lagos building collapse \u2013 NEMA"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0Barely 48 hours after the collapse of storey building in Lagos,the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed one dead in another building collapse in the Ojodu-Berger area, Lagos State.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">It also confirmed that 12 persons had been rescued so far from the rubble of the three-storey building.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA Coordinator, Lagos Territorial Office confirmed said this in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Farinloye said the cause of the collapsed was yet to be ascertained.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He said that search and rescue operation was still ongoing.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had reported earlier that the incident happened around 09.45 our<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Daily Echoes Media gathered that occupants trapped on Saturday morning as a three-storey building housing a local restaurant known as \u201cEqual Right\u201d collapsed at 10, Oremeta Street, Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos State.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The cause of the collapsed building is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.<\/p>\n<p>Although, emergency responders could not confirm if there were casualties but search and rescue operation was still ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>However, eight survivors were rescued and rushed to nearby hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement signed by Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA<\/p>\n<p>Emergency response teams and local residents have since launched search and rescue efforts, attempting to pull survivors from the rubble.<\/p>\n<p>The statement partly read, &#8220;Following distress alerts at 09:45hrs, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, activated the State\u2019s Emergency Response Plans from Command and Control Centre, Alausa and Onipanu.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Upon arrival of Agency\u2019s Response Teams at the incident scene by 09:52hrs, it was discovered that a 3-storey building housing a Restaurant and Bar had collapsed, with several victims trapped under the debris at the aforementioned location.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Eight victims has been rescued so far. One of the rescued victims attended by the LASEMA Pre-Hospital Care Unit has been transported to the hospital for further medical attention.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It added, &#8220;No deaths has been recorded so far from the incident as the time of writing this report.<\/p>\n<p>LASEMA Response Teams commenced search and rescue efforts immediately on arrival. Safety measures were activated with the operational area cordoned-off at the incident scene.<\/p>\n<p>The Agency`s Heavy-duty equipment, &#8216;the escavator&#8217;, has been activated and deployed to aid in the quick rescue of victims that may still be trapped beneath the collapsed structure<\/p>\n<p>In attendance, LASEMA Response Team (LRT) from Command and Control Centre, Alausa, LASEMA Response Team (LRT) from Onipanu, Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service among others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0Barely 48 hours after the collapse of storey building in Lagos,the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed one dead in another building collapse in the Ojodu-Berger area, Lagos State.
