{"id":3632,"date":"2025-04-24T08:21:10","date_gmt":"2025-04-24T08:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=3632"},"modified":"2025-04-24T08:21:10","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T08:21:10","slug":"2027-ipac-demands-74-seats-for-women-in-two-chambers-of-nass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/04\/24\/2027-ipac-demands-74-seats-for-women-in-two-chambers-of-nass\/","title":{"rendered":"2027: IPAC demands 74\u00a0 seats for women in two chambers of NASS"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">\n<h2>By Our Reporter<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<p>As the race for 2027 election gathers gradually picks up, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called for the immediate passage of a bill to reserve 74 constitutionally guaranteed seats for women in Nigeria\u2019s National Assembly.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">This initiative is aimed at\u00a0 increasing\u00a0 female representation in the nation&#8217;s political sphere in the forthcoming general elections and to foster inclusive governance within Nigeria\u2019s democratic framework.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The call was made during a two-day capacity-building conference for female political leaders, themed \u2018Breaking the Barriers and Shaping Positive Attitudes Towards Inclusive Politics in Nigeria\u2019, held in Abuja on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The event was organised by the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), in collaboration with the IPAC Directorate of Women Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Key speakers included IPAC National Chairman, Dr Yusuf Mamman Dantalle; former Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen; and NIPSS Director-General, Professor Ayo Omotayo<\/p>\n<p>Consequently,IPAC pledged to intensify its advocacy efforts with both the National Assembly and the Presidency to ensure the bill\u2019s passage.<\/p>\n<p>If enacted, the legislation would legally guarantee women a more substantial presence in the federal legislature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccordingly, IPAC reiterates its call for the passage of the bill on the reservation of special seats for women in parliament, currently pending in the National Assembly. The bill seeks to create 74 seats for women to encourage greater female participation in politics,\u201d said Dr Dantalle.<\/p>\n<p>To reinforce its commitment to gender inclusivity, IPAC stated that it has established three dedicated directorates; for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, ensuring underrepresented groups have a voice within the council\u2019s political discourse and decision-making structures.<\/p>\n<p>The council also highlighted other ongoing efforts to ensure adequate female representation at all levels of political party structures nationwide, from national to ward levels.<\/p>\n<p>In any democratic society, the active participation of women in politics is crucial to achieving inclusivity, equality, equity, and sustainable development,\u201d Dantalle emphasised.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Our Reporter As the race for 2027 election gathers gradually picks up, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called for the immediate passage of a bill to reserve 74 constitutionally guaranteed seats for women in Nigeria\u2019s National Assembly.
