As the nation progresses\u00a0 in information technology through online media,the management of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has assured Nigerians at home and abroad that robust measures are put in place to safeguard the nation’s database from cyber threat.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
This is even as it\u00a0 has pledged not to rest on its mandate until Nigerians at (home and in diaspora) and legal residents are captured on the country\u2019s identity database.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
NiMC Director\/Chief Executive, Engr Abisoye Coker-Odusote declared this at a two-day Roundtable with Nigeria Online Publishers in Abuja recently.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
According to Engr Coker-Odusote, it is the intention of NIMC\u00a0 to build strategic communication bridges between it and online publishers, facilitating effective information dissemination.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
He added,” NIMC, under my watch, seeks to foster a friendly and collaborative atmosphere that will lead to more positive coverage and support from the media.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
” Let me use this medium to, once again, reassure Nigerians, at home, and in the diaspora that robust measures are in place to safeguard the nation’s database from cyber threats.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“NIMC\u2019s infrastructure adheres to the stringent ISO 27001:2013 Information Security Management System Standard, ensuring that the highest standards of data protection are maintained.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Under my leadership, NIMC has an unwavering commitment to upholding ethical standards in data protection.<\/div>\n
Cutting-edge cybersecurity technologies such as encryption, multi-factor authentication, and real-time monitoring systems are in place to protect the database.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Continuing the DG said”We are also very deliberate about ensuring that all partners and vendors of the commission comply with strict security standards.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“One of the objectives of this meeting is to strengthen collaboration with the media, pursuant to our determination to regularly keep the public informed about the steps being taken to secure their data, the commission\u2019s activities, updates, success stories, as well as challenges. Please, let us work together in this regard.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
“It\u00a0 is also expected that we discuss your roles in the forthcoming NIMC Ecosystem Enrolment exercise, ensuring you understand how you can contribute to this national effort.<\/div>\n
We are also deliberate about establishing a relationship that will help prevent misinformation about NIMC’s activities and clear up any existing misconceptions, thereby maintaining public trust.”<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Earlier, Coordinator, Project Implementation Unit Nigeria Gigital ID4D Project TITO Mrs Tito Ejenavi noted,” Nigeria Digital ID4D Project is a (Nigerian) collaborative effort, jointly funded by the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, and the French Development Agency, with a singular objective: to increase the number of persons with a National Identity Number (NIN) through a robust and inclusive foundational identity system that enables access to services.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
“Our mission is rooted in the principle of inclusion.<\/div>\n
Historically, identity systems have often inadvertently marginalized certain groups due to logistical challenges and social stigmas, particularly affecting women and persons with disabilities.<\/div>\n
We are committed to reversing this trend by ensuring that our ID system is inclusive, equitable, and accessible to all Nigerians, regardless of their socio-economic status, gender, or physical abilities.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The foundational ID system that NIMC is building is not just about numbers; it\u2019s about people and their access to rights and services.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“By strengthening our national identity infrastructure, we aim to bolster Nigeria\u2019s digital economy, enhance data protection, and close the inclusion gaps that hinder access to identification and related key services. “<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
According to her,”This is particularly crucial for marginalized groups, including persons living with disabilities and the rural poor.<\/div>\n
Let me in a very special way, thank my boss, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote for her leadership and support to the Nigeria Digital ID4D Project.<\/div>\n

“Our collaboration with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), the implementing agency for the Nigeria Digital ID4D Project, is pivotal.<\/div>\n
This roundtable is a testament to our ongoing support for NIMC.”<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
She further noted, “By engaging with you, the publishers of online newspapers, we aim to strengthen NIMC\u2019s relationship with the digital information gatekeepers.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Your role is strategic and timely, and we believe this engagement will further enhance NIMC\u2019s visibility, communicate the commission\u2019s success stories, build valuable relationships, and counter misinformation.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“As digital publishers, you have the power to shape narratives and influence public perceptions.<\/div>\n
Your platforms reach millions of Nigerians and beyond, daily, making you indispensable partners in our mission to build a more inclusive and digitally empowered Nigeria.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“While we appreciate all your efforts and goodwill over time, we seek your continued support in spreading accurate information about the National Identity Management Commission and of course, the Nigeria Digital ID4D Project.<\/div>\n

“Let us work together to ensure that no Nigerian is left behind in the country\u2019s digital identity project.<\/div>\n
