{"id":443,"date":"2024-07-18T12:18:19","date_gmt":"2024-07-18T12:18:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=443"},"modified":"2024-07-18T12:18:19","modified_gmt":"2024-07-18T12:18:19","slug":"fg-bars-jamb-from-granting-admission-to-under-18-candidates-as-education-stakeholders-reject-fgs-18-yrs-admission-age-limit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2024\/07\/18\/fg-bars-jamb-from-granting-admission-to-under-18-candidates-as-education-stakeholders-reject-fgs-18-yrs-admission-age-limit\/","title":{"rendered":"FG bars JAMB from granting admission to under 18 candidates   &#8230;&#8230;.As Education stakeholders reject FG&#8217;s 18-yrs Admission age limit\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0Our Reporter<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Federal Government has stated that only candidates that are up to 18 years will gain admission in the 2024\/2025 academic year.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">This even as Education stakeholders have vehemently rejected the new 18 years age limit for students seeking admission into 2024\/2025 Universities and other tertiary\u00a0institutions.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Minster of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman stated this in his welcome address during 2024 Policy meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions\/NELFUND Half Hour Briefing on Thursday.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Mamman whose declaration met with loud murmuring by the audience, urged anyone who was dissatisfied with the decision which he said is within the law, to go to the National Assembly and ask for amendment of the law.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u201cIf you want the child to start from four, you can go back to the National Assembly and amend it,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Consequently, there was a rowdy session at the 2024 Joint Admissions Matriculation Board\u2019s (JAMB) policy meeting on education in Abuja as stakeholders vehemently opposed the new minimum admission age of 18 years announced by the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The minister\u2019s declaration was met with instant resistance from the packed hall of stakeholders representing tertiary institutions nationwide, forcing him to pause his address.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The session turned rowdy, with the minister asking, \u201cAre we together?\u201d only to be met with a resounding \u201cNo!\u201d from the crowd.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Undisturbed, the minister continued his explanation for the new benchmark, but the uproar persisted.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">It took the intervention of JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, to restore order with his plea, \u201cPlease attention please!\u201d<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The annual policy meeting is held to authorise the commencement of admission into tertiary institutions in the country and adopt certain admission benchmarks.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Minister of Education Prof .
