to mark the &#8216;Democracy Day&#8217;, on Thursday, June 12, 2025, President Bola Tinubu has been asked to use the occasion to end the emergency rule in Rivers State<br \/>\nPresident Tinubu was also asked to restore democratic governance in the state by reinstating the state Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Professor Ngozi Odu and members of the Rivers State House of class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gov Fubara of Rivers State<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Rivers people, under the aegis of the South-South Youths Initiative and the Coalition of Rivers State Youth Bodies made the call while addressing Journalists in Port Harcourt.<br \/>\nThe groups described the suspension of the democratically elected governor, and other elected officials of the state as a threat to democracy and the constitutional order of the country.<br \/>\nComrade Imeabe Oscar, National President of the South-South Youths Initiative and Chairman of the Coalition Youth Bodies in the State, added that the president\u2019s actions was \u201creckless, unconstitutional, and an affront to Nigeria\u2019s democracy.\u201d<br \/>\nHis words, \u201cAs we commemorate Democracy Day on June 12, we reflect on the significance of democratic governance and the rule of law in our nation\u201d.<br \/>\nHe stated that recent events in Rivers State have raised concerns about the health of the nation&#8217;s democracy.<br \/>\nAdding that, \u201cThe suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly by President Bola Tinubu\u2019s administration has dent our democratic process said to be practiced in Nigeria.<br \/>\n\u201cWe urge President Tinubu to prioritise the restoration of democratic order in Rivers State by reinstating the suspended elected official.\u201d<br \/>\nFurthermore, he said, \u201cThe Nigerian Constitution outlines impeachment by the State Hous!e of Assembly as the sole legitimate process for removing a governor, making this suspension unconstitutional\u201d.<br \/>\nThe groups expressed concern over what they described as the erosion of democratic values in Rivers State, noting that the crisis has attracted international attention and could destabilize Nigeria\u2019s fragile democratic structure.<br \/>\n\u201cThe suspension of elected officials sets a dangerous precedent, threatening the autonomy of states and the will of the people.<br \/>\n\u201cThe president\u2019s actions have been described as reckless, unconstitutional, and an affront to Nigeria\u2019s democracy.<br \/>\n\u201cThe crisis in Rivers State has drawn international attention, with concerns about implications for Nigeria\u2019s democratic stability\u201d.<br \/>\nThe youths further called on all Nigerians to defend the principles of democracy, federalism, and the rule of law.<br \/>\n\u201cWe call on the federal government to respect the democratic process and reinstate Governor Fubara and the suspended lawmakers.<br \/>\n\u201cWe also urge Nigerians to remain vigilant and defend our democracy against any form of manipulation or erosion.<br \/>\n\u201cAs we planned to celebrate Democracy Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles of democracy, federalism, and the rule of law.<br \/>\n\u201cWe must work together to ensure that our democratic institutions are
