{"id":5413,"date":"2025-07-10T15:36:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T15:36:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=5413"},"modified":"2025-07-10T15:36:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T15:36:14","slug":"senate-replaces-natasha-uduaghan-with-aniekan-bassey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/07\/10\/senate-replaces-natasha-uduaghan-with-aniekan-bassey\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate Replaces Natasha Uduaghan with Aniekan Bassey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By George Mgbeleke<\/p>\n<p>The Senate on Thursday replaced the embattled chairperson of the Senate committee on Diaspora and Non-governmental Organizations, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP Kogi Central) with Senator Aniekan Bassey (APC, Akwa Ibom North).<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the kogi lawmaker was quoted to have assured his constituents and supporters that she would resume plenary on Tuesday in line with High Court&#8217;s ruling.<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly,the President of the Senate,Godswill Obong Akpabio had declared a replacement of Natasha\u2019s Chairmanship position of committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations by Senator Aniekan Bassey (APC, Akwa Ibom North) towards the end of plenary session yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>According to Akpabio,Senator Natasha&#8217;s replacement is with immediate effect.<\/p>\n<p>It would also be recalled that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan had been on six months suspension for gross misconduct and violation of Senate rules.<\/p>\n<p>Last Friday, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja in its ruling fined Natasha five million naira for contempt of court and asked her to apologize to the Senate in two national dailies and on her Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, on Monday this week, another Federal High Court in Abuja upheld the Senate suspension of Natasha for violating the rules of the Senate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; By George Mgbeleke The Senate on Thursday replaced the embattled chairperson of the Senate committee on Diaspora and Non-governmental Organizations, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP Kogi Central) with Senator Aniekan Bassey (APC, Akwa Ibom North).
