{"id":5719,"date":"2025-07-24T13:30:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T13:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=5719"},"modified":"2025-07-24T13:30:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T13:30:10","slug":"immigration-detains-natasha-at-abuja-airport-cites-senates-order","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/07\/24\/immigration-detains-natasha-at-abuja-airport-cites-senates-order\/","title":{"rendered":"Immigration Detains Natasha At Abuja Airport, Cites Senate&#8217;s Order"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>0&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was briefly detained at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday morning while attempting to board a flight to the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>The senator, who represents Kogi Central, was reportedly stopped by immigration officers and informed that she could not proceed with her journey due to her name being placed on a watch list\u2014allegedly at the request of the leadership of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>A family member familiar with the situation said the lawmaker was travelling alongside her husband to attend the graduation ceremony of her stepson in the UK when officials at the departure terminal intercepted her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was told that the leadership of the National Assembly requested that she be considered a flight risk and placed on a watch list,\u201d the source disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are wondering why they treated her that way, given there is no court order restricting her movement and she has never missed any of her court appearances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>POLITICS NIGERIA understands that the incident caused a stir among travellers and airport staff.<\/p>\n<p>The development comes amidst a deepening rift between the senator and the leadership of the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is currently challenging her suspension from the Senate, which followed her rejection of the reassignment of her seat during plenary. She later levelled allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government has also initiated two criminal defamation proceedings against the senator.<\/p>\n<p>Eyewitnesses said the senator protested the restriction and was seen making multiple urgent phone calls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer passport was eventually stamped and she was allowed to proceed,\u201d one of the witnesses said.<\/p>\n<p>When contacted shortly before departure, Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan confirmed the development but said, \u201cThe aircraft is about to take off.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>0&nbsp; Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was briefly detained at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday morning while attempting to board a flight to the United Kingdom.
