{"id":6380,"date":"2025-08-15T20:14:39","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T20:14:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=6380"},"modified":"2025-08-15T20:14:39","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T20:14:39","slug":"bye-elections-inec-complies-with-court-order-includes-sdp-candidates-on-ballot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/08\/15\/bye-elections-inec-complies-with-court-order-includes-sdp-candidates-on-ballot\/","title":{"rendered":"Bye-elections: INEC complies with Court order, includes SDP Candidates on Ballot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By Our Correspondent<\/p>\n<p>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday announced a last minute inclusion of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the list of parties participating in Saturday\u2019s bye elections in 12 states of the federation.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4253\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4253\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4253\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/IMG-20250519-WA0063-300x247.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/IMG-20250519-WA0063-300x247.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/IMG-20250519-WA0063.jpg 610w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-4253\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SDP logo<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The last minute inclusion, according to the commission\u2019s spokesperson, Sam Olumekun followed a judgement of the Federal High Coury, Abuja ordering the commission to accept the list of candidates presented by the party.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission said it did not Include the party at the initial stage because SDP did not notify it of the conduct of party primaries and therefore did not monitor same as required by law.<\/p>\n<p>The statement reads: \u201cThe Commission has been served with the judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, in Suit No. FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/1525\/2025<\/p>\n<p>In the judgement, the Commission was ordered to include the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its candidates in the bye-elections in 12 States of the Federation. The party did not earlier submit a valid notice for the conduct of primaries for the bye-elections.
