Parliamentary Voluntary Organization in Akwa Ibom have appealed to the State Government to carry her members along in the spirit of inclusivity, Unity of purpose and to give them a sense of belonging.<\/p>\n
State Coordinator, National Association of Uniform Voluntary Organization, Lt Commander Ntokon Idiongobong Edo who made the appeal while speaking with journalist in Uyo on Tuesday, expressed the believe that if given the sense of belonging, they will add value to the security manpower of the State.
\nThe organization which comprised of Peace Corps, Nigerian Man O War, Red Cross, Girls Guide, Boys Brigade, Nigeria Scout and Nigeria Vigilante as well as Nigerian Forest Security, is saddle with the mandate to educate and promote volunteerism among the Youth as good ambassadors of the society.
\nLt Commander Ntokon stated that the organization which polled the membership strength of over 130, comprising of 37 different voluntary organizations, that is made up of Parliamentary and Faith based is capable of providing security and intelligence services, community watch, environmental monitoring, crowd control, vigilante service to the State Government with the sole aim of protecting lives and properties of the citizens but expressed need for the government to support them in the area of manpower development and financing.<\/p>\n
Ntokon Udo said that the organization is seriously interested in with the government, especially the ministry of Youth Development and the Ministry Internal Security and Water Ways in any area of engagement, and would offer security services to schools to fight cultism, child abuse truancy and will established voluntary uniform clubs in public schools.<\/p>\n
Decrying the inability of the organization to carry out its function optimally due to circumstances beyond their control, the state coordinator of the organization used the medium to appealed to the National Assembly with particular reference to the Senate to Pass the Nigeria Peace Corps Bill into law and requested for Presidential Assent from President Bola Alhmed Tinibu to the Nigerian Forest Security (Hunters) Bill before him.<\/p>\n
While commending Federal Ministry of Education for approving the use of Peace Corps to tackle insecurities in school, Ntokon appealed to Akwa Ibom State government to reciprocate same as they are willing to partner the state ministry of education in this direction.
\n” Our challenges as voluntary organizations is that we are lacking behind, we appealing to the State Government to look into the Voluntary Uniform Organizations in the state. This are voluntary youths who have shown cultism, conflict, violence and misconduct to belong to a disciplinary organization to add value to the society; so this kind of youth should not be neglected by the government “, he lamented.<\/p>\n
He went further to add that empowering the organization will increase youth employment, reduce crime and used the opportunity to thanked Gov Umo Eno for creation of Youth Development Ministry, harnessing of Akwa Ibom State Youth Policy and Development Roadmap, and equally appreciate the Commissioner in charge of the ministry of youth development, Dr Ekerete Ekanem for his fatherly role to the organization.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
