{"id":6531,"date":"2025-08-20T20:53:44","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T20:53:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=6531"},"modified":"2025-08-20T21:01:46","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T21:01:46","slug":"adc-rejects-pay-rise-for-political-office-holders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/08\/20\/adc-rejects-pay-rise-for-political-office-holders\/","title":{"rendered":"ADC rejects pay rise for political office holders"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">By Our Correspondent<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the proposed plan to increase the salaries of political office holders in Nigeria.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The party maintained that ordinary citizens, not politicians, deserve a pay raise.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The National Publicity Secretary of ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement on Wednesday, said such a proposal shows how disconnected the government is from the realities citizens face daily.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) had reportedly suggested a review of salaries for the President, Vice President, governors, and other top officials.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">But the ADC described the move as tone-deaf and an affront to struggling Nigerians.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The party stated that politicians already enjoy bogus allowances and perks which far exceed what ordinary Nigerians can ever earn.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The party stressed that instead of focusing on politicians\u2019 pay, government should prioritize improving workers\u2019 wages and welfare.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The ADC also contends that the government ought to focus more on enhancing the quality of life for all citizens, rather than increasing the salaries of the president, governors, and other officials who already lead lavish lives.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The party also maintained that while leaders continue to make life easier for themselves, they have no moral authority to demand sacrifice from the populace.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">It emphasized that while ordinary Nigerians suffer, leaders cannot be protected from the nation\u2019s economic difficulties.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Our Correspondent The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the proposed plan to increase the salaries of political office holders in Nigeria.
