National President, Secular Order of Discalced Carmelite, Prof. Michael Ogunu has admonished devotees of the our Lady of Mount Carmel to remain steadfast stressing that devotion to our Lady of Mount Carmel\u00a0 will accelerate our spiritual growth.<\/div>\n

Speaking in an Interview with the Publisher of Daily Echoes at the end of a a three day National Pilgrimage on Our Lady of Mount Carmel at Tabor Carmelite Community in Nsukka in Enugu state recently,\u00a0 Prof Ogunu said the Pilgrimage is of great spiritual benefit to the Catholics who have had the privilege of participating in it.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Prof Ogunu who is equally the International President of the World Apostolate of Fatima also gave insight into the importance of Scapular and those who wear it as sacramental in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary and her son Jesus Christ.<\/div>\n

“The Pilgrimage is of great spiritual benefit to the Catholics who have had the privilege of participating in it.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“From the talks\u00a0 and the speeches that we have received at this event, our understanding of devotion to our lady of Mount Carmel will be very much broadened.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“It has also enriched our understanding of the Scapular and\u00a0 the devotion to Our Lady of Mount. The two will serve\u00a0 as\u00a0 means of consecration to our lady of Mount Carmel and also as\u00a0 sacramental. The two are very important.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“Therefore, participants at this Pilgrimage would gain lots of blessings\u00a0 if they participate actively in the programme,” he noted.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
On why most Catholics were not present at the Pilgrimage he said,” this\u00a0 Pilgrimage we have to understand is not like a Pilgrimage to holy land or Pilgrimage organized by the universal church. It is essentially, a Carmelite Pilgrimage and it is for\u00a0 the Carmelites who are able to attend the Pilgrimage that are here.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“The invitation is not to all\u00a0 Catholics in the whole world, it was essentially to Carmelite of whatever category. And I know that many Secular Carmelite would have wished to be\u00a0 here and members of the Confraternity of our Lady of Mount Carmel are not all here because of some personal reasons or obstacles such as illness, inability to travel from their places of residence and so on and so forth.”<\/div>\n

On why the membership of the\u00a0 Secular Carmelite (OCDS) is dwindling he said,” membership of OCDS is dwindling in many parts of the country even including my own community.<\/div>\n

\u00a0“I think there is need to discuss this matter with the Vicar of the Carmelite Order in Nigeria as well as with the Provincial Delegate who is the spiritual Adviser to the Secular Carmelite.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“I, as the National President of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelite with some other members can have this discussion with the relevant priests so that some progress can be made,” he noted.<\/div>\n

On the suggestion by the former Spiritual Assistant of Mother and Queen of Carmel Abuja, Rev Fr Clement Obiora (OCD) that the Order should lias with Catholic\u00a0 Bishops on the need for canonical erection of Carmelite’s Order in their dioceses , he said such an idea is a good one, noting that the idea is very good adding that it will further enlighten most Catholics on the need to increase devotion to our blessed Virgin Mary.<\/div>\n
Also another participant at the National Pilgrimage, President of Nsukka community of Secular Discards Carmelite (OCDS) Sr Benedicta Ugwuanyi(OCDS), said,” We\u00a0 as a a host community feel delighted, we feel highly honoured that the programme is taking place in our community.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u00a0“We don’t need to travel like many other brethren that traveled long distances from Abuja, Benin, Lagos and other cities and states in Nigeria to be here.”<\/div>\n

She expressed optimism that she believed that she would\u00a0 be spiritually uplifted at the end of the programme, noting that the spiritual exercise will strengthen our relationship With God through our Mother Mary.<\/div>\n

On the\u00a0 possible reasons why most OCDS members were absent from the programme, she said,”the reason may be basically blamed on\u00a0 the hardship in the country.<\/div>\n

“My brother, things are hard, people find it difficult to feed, let alone finding means of traveling to Nsukka for this programme. I think that is the main reason why they are not here, “,he said.<\/div>\n
