{"id":7044,"date":"2025-09-10T04:09:59","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T04:09:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=7044"},"modified":"2025-09-10T04:15:32","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T04:15:32","slug":"tensionas-nass-bars-senator-natasha-akpoti-uduaghan-from-resuming-sitting-on-sept-23-she-must-resume-legislative-duties-immediately-pdp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/09\/10\/tensionas-nass-bars-senator-natasha-akpoti-uduaghan-from-resuming-sitting-on-sept-23-she-must-resume-legislative-duties-immediately-pdp\/","title":{"rendered":"Tension,As NASS Bars\u00a0 Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from resuming sitting\u00a0 on Sept 23 &#8230;.she must resume legislative duties immediately-PDP\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">By George Mgbeleke<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">There are strong indications that the embattled Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan&#8217;s planned resumption of the six months suspension slammed on her by the Senate on March 6 2025, may have been suspended further by the leadership of the Senate, following a letter written and signed by Clerk of the National Assembly,Barr.Yahaya Danzaria.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div id=\"attachment_3899\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3899\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3899\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot_20250506-233327_1-300x254.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot_20250506-233327_1-300x254.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot_20250506-233327_1.jpg 522w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3899\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PDP logo<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In a letter dated Sept 4,2025 titled &#8220;NASS\/CNA\/29\/VOL1\/41 and<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">signed by the Clerk of National Assembly,Barr.Yahaya Danzaria and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The letter\u00a0 which was directed to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (kogi central)\u00a0 in response to her earlier request to resume her legislative responsibilities to her constituents reads in part, &#8220;Re-NOTICE OF RESUMPTION<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div id=\"attachment_2447\" style=\"width: 299px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2447\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2447\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG-20250303-WA0161-289x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"289\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG-20250303-WA0161-289x300.jpg 289w, https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG-20250303-WA0161.jpg 682w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2447\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter notifying this office of your intention to resume sitting and other legislative duties in the Senate on the 4th of September,2025 which you claim is the date of expiration of the six months suspension imposed on you by the Senate.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;I am further directed to inform you that your suspension was with effect from Thursday 6th of March 2025 and draw your attention to the fact that the subject matter of your suspension is presently before the &#8220;court of Appeal.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;The matter therefore, remains subjudice and, until the process is concluded and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in the light of the court&#8217;s pronouncement,no administrative action can be taken by this office to facilitate your resumption.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;You will be duly notified of the Senate&#8217;s decision on the matter as soon as it is resolved.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;Please accept\u00a0 distinguished Senator, my assurances of my highest regards.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemn in the strongest term possible, the attempt by the Clerk of the National Assembly to bar Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from resuming at the Senate after the unjust six months suspension imposed on her by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In\u00a0 statement signed by the party\u2019s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba the party said that the\u00a0 reported action by the Clerk of the National Assembly was smacks of a calculated attempt being orchestrated by the Senator Akpabio-led All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate leadership to abridge the right of representation of the people of Kogi Central Senatorial District and deny them a voice at the highest law-making body in the country.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0&#8220;The attempt to use the National Assembly establishment against an elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in gross violation of the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,1999 (as amended) and the Standing Rules of the Senate is highly provocative and constitutes a clear and present danger to democracy and overall stability of our country.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;It also comes as parts of the antics being deployed severally by the APC-controlled Senate and the Federal Government to suffocate the opposition, which further confirms the creeping totalitarianism in our country under the APC government.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;The reported action by the Clerk of the National Assembly against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan further brings to the fore the allegations of attacks on the right of women and sustained attempts to stifle their voices as witnessed in the various accusations of harassment against women levelled against the current Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio over the years.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Continuing the party further stated,&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The PDP demands that the Senate President should come clean on the various allegations instead of seeking to use the National Assembly establishment to further harass, intimidate, and keep Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan away from the Senate.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;The extreme persecution of six months suspension unjustly imposed on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, contrary to the Rules of the Senate is more than enough and the PDP stands with the people of Kogi Central and all well-meaning Nigerians in condemning this unwarranted renewed attack on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0&#8220;Our Party strongly cautions the Clerk of the National Assembly to withdraw the said letter and play by the rules by being neutral as a bureaucrat and not allow himself to be politically entangled and used as a tool to undermine democracy and the Rule of Law in the National Assembly and Nigeria.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;The PDP calls on the International Community, Democracy Institutions, Right Advocacy Groups, and other democracy development partners to rise up in condemnation of this renewed attack on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;While charging Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to discountenance the reported letter by the Clerk of the National Assembly and get ready to resume at the Senate, the PDP demands that the Senate leadership ensures that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is allowed to resume her duties and perform her roles as an elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria unhindered.&#8221;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By George Mgbeleke There are strong indications that the embattled Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan&#8217;s planned resumption of the six months suspension slammed on her by the Senate on March 6 2025, may have been suspended further by the leadership of the Senate, following a letter written and signed by Clerk of the National Assembly,Barr.Yahaya Danzaria.
