The project is now expected to be completed by December this year.

Governor Fubara made the remark during an inspection tour of two critical road projects both in Emohua Local Government Area, and in Kalabari Kingdom on Tuesday.

The projects include the 19.7km Buguma–Abalama–Tema–Degema–Abonnema Road, with seven bridges; and the 9.7km Emohua–Ogbakiri–Egbelu Road, which connects about six communities.

The Governor described the roads, particularly the one traversing Emohua communities as “very important,” noting that it serves as a major access route, connecting Ogbakiri people to the East–West Road with ease.

“We came in to inspect one of the projects we awarded before the state of emergency,” Governor Fubara said. “This project, for us, is very important, because it connects Ogbakiri people to the East–West Road with ease.”

Governor Fubara further commended the host communities for their remarkable support to the contractor, which has ensured steady progress on the project.

He said, “In fact, let me commend the people of Ogbakiri because the contractor, while I was on my way here, informed me that they are one of the best host communities.

“They have never given them any trouble. The reason is simple — they understand the importance of this project. It is about them, and government is about the people,” he added.

Governor Fubara assured residents of Ogbakiri in Emohua Local Government Area that the state government remains committed to completing the project on schedule, amplifying the cornerstone of the Rivers First focus of his administration.

“So, I’m here to assure the good people of Emohua and Ogbakiri in particular, the Chairman is here as a witness, and you can see that the contractor is back on site that, God willing, before the end of December, this project will be completed,” he said.

In another development,Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has described as unfortunate the fire incident that gutted a section of the State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt on Monday evening.

The affected area, which serves as a creche for babies of civil servants, was partly destroyed by the blaze. Governor Fubara visited the site on Tuesday morning to personally assess the level of damage.

The Governor was received at the Secretariat Complex by a crowd of jubilant civil servants, the Head of Service, and some Permanent Secretaries, including the newly sworn-in Mr Austin Ezekiel-Hart.

Speaking to journalists after the inspection, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to God that no life was lost, noting that the damage was restricted to a small section of the building.

“I came here this morning to see for myself what happened yesterday. It’s really unfortunate, but we give God all the glory that no life was lost and the damage was only in one section,” he said.

The Governor explained that the incident would serve as a wake-up call to fast-track the planned renovation and refurbishing of the Secretariat Complex, which has been under consideration by his administration.

“We’ve been talking about the renovation of our foremost secretariat. With this particular incident, there should be no further delay. Whatever is required by this government to commence that process, we will immediately swing into action,” he assured.

Governor Fubara commended the State Fire Service firefighters for their prompt response, noting that previous investments made by his administration in the three fire service stations proved invaluable in containing the situation.

“Before the emergency rule, we took our time to invest in the fire service. I wonder what would have happened if we didn’t have a formidable and functional fire service,” he remarked.

He also appreciated civil servants for their dedication, resilience and continued support, reiterating his administration’s commitment to initiatives that will enhance their welfare and promote the well-being of all Rivers people.

“We’ll continue to do those things that will uplift Rivers people and make them happy,” the Governor added.

The Governor was accompanied on the inspection tour by the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Dr Chidi Lloyd; and the management team of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.

By Magnus Chukwudi, Port Harcourt Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed delight over the overwhelming reception and cooperation of the people of Ogbakiri towards Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the construction company handling a major road project in the area.
