{"id":8195,"date":"2025-10-25T03:42:44","date_gmt":"2025-10-25T03:42:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=8195"},"modified":"2025-10-25T03:42:44","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T03:42:44","slug":"women-group-alleges-disenfranchisement-as-political-parties-avoid-campaigns-in-erosion-devastated-communities-in-anambra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2025\/10\/25\/women-group-alleges-disenfranchisement-as-political-parties-avoid-campaigns-in-erosion-devastated-communities-in-anambra\/","title":{"rendered":"Women group alleges disenfranchisement as\u00a0 Political parties avoid campaigns in erosion devastated communities in Anambra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Our Correspondent <\/p>\n<p>Ahead of Anambra State governorship election on Saturday November 8 women stakeholders have alleged pre-election disenfranchisement in the state.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nMrs. Ezeh Stella the leader of Umuechem Women For Good Governance has declared that women were already disenfranchisement in the state as a result of the persistent gully erosion in some parts of the state.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Ezeh who was fielding questions from our newsmen said some communities in Anambra had been disenfranchised natural disasters wise and had been allegedly abandoned to their fate by the state government, INEC\u00a0 and the political parties as the governorship election fast approches.<\/p>\n<p>The woman leader noted that political parties had limited their campaigns to places accessible by road only and abandoned communities devasted by erosion in the state because those places could no longer be accessed by\u00a0 road as erosion had destroyed the roads leading to them.<\/p>\n<p>The woman who lamented that affected placed had\u00a0 INEC polling centres and units said the affected placed included Ogidi, Igbo-Ukwu, Nnewi Ichi in Nnewi and Amadunu in Nnobi among others.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Ezeh who described the development as sad said the inability of political parties to carry out campaigns in the erosion affected communities, failure of the government to ameliorate the situation before the election amounts to abandonment, a minus for APGA, and disenfranchisement, adding that it was also a clear message to the communities that they could not exercise their franchise on the election day.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Ezeh urged INEC, APGA, APC, ADC, LP and PDP among other parties in the proposed election and Anambra State Government to take note of the abnormality.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The political parties have not carried out campaigns in the erosion devasted communities. The Anambra State Government has also not done anything to ameliorate the situation.The message is clear. It is disenfranchisement due to natural disaster. The Political parties avoid the communities because they are no longer accessible by road. Amadunu is an example.
