{"id":885,"date":"2024-11-05T14:41:25","date_gmt":"2024-11-05T14:41:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/?p=885"},"modified":"2024-11-05T14:41:25","modified_gmt":"2024-11-05T14:41:25","slug":"abuja-court-struck-out-treason-charges-against-endbadgovernance-protesters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyechoes.ng\/index.php\/2024\/11\/05\/abuja-court-struck-out-treason-charges-against-endbadgovernance-protesters\/","title":{"rendered":"Abuja Court struck out  Treason Charges Against #EndBadGovernance Protesters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Justice Obiorah Egwuatu of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, dismissed the treason charges filed by the Inspector General of Police against the#EndBadGovernance# protesters.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Egwuatu ended the trial following the withdrawal of the charges by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).<\/p>\n<p>The AGF was represented by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, M.D Abubakar at the proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>He announced his exercise of section 174 of the 1999 Constitution to take over the case from the Inspector General of Police.<\/p>\n<p>After the grant of the request by Justice Egwuatu,the AGF demanded an invocation of the same section of the Constitution to discontinue the trial of the 119 accused persons,mostly minors.<br \/>\nLawyers to the defendants did not oppose the application.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Egwuatu granted the request and struck out the charges.He ordered immediate release of the detained protesters from prison remand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Justice Obiorah Egwuatu of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, dismissed the treason charges filed by the Inspector General of Police against the#EndBadGovernance# protesters.
